I'm trying to trace any descendants of my 2 great Aunts who were sent to Canada from the UK on board The Kensington arriving in Quebec on 10th May 1903. Thieir mother died in 1897 in childbirth in Compton, Berkshire, UK and they were subsequently fostered to a family in Cambridge UK as their father was unable to cope with the youngest of 8 children. In 1903 they were sent to Canada as part of a Barnados party and went to Hazelbraefor a while. Amelia Jane Yeatman (b.16.12.90 - d.8.2.61) married Frank Lewis. She died in Whitby Ontario.
Elsie May (b.Apr 1894 - d?), also know as Ruth, according to the 1911 census was living in West Peterborough as a servant to a John and Margrit Donoghue. I believe she may have had a daughter in 1909 although the child isn't with her in 1911. On Amelia's obituary she is recorded as a 'Mrs Ruth Bannister'.
My cousins and I are trying to find out what happened to them and if they had families of their own.
I am trying to find relatives of either Edward and/or Richard Major, born 1885 and 1886 in Wantage Berkshire England and sailed from Bristol in 1911. Richard was single but Edward was married, wife called louisa Mary, born 1885, a son William Edward born in 1908 and a daughter called Phillis Sophia (christian name spelt as found) in 1910. All born in Wantage England. According to the 1921 census they were living in Melrose Street, Etobicoke, York West Ontario and Edward was a painter and decorator.
This is one of my brick walls. I am looking for any information on John(William) Sworth and his wife Meria Bruse. I have their daughter, Louisa and son, Charles on Canadian census 1881 on. Also have their names on Louisa and Charles marriage records. However I cannot seem to find any record of John and Meria. The information I have so far is that they were both born in Ontario, and Louisa was born in Elizabethtown in 1859. The ethnic origin, as it appears on the various census and death record for Louisa, switches between English and German. Leads me to believe Meria was possibly of German descent and John of English.. Any ideas, any one?
