He later married Jennie Carrigan (nee Boulanger-Baker) in Wytopitlock, Maine during the late 1800s and raised a large flock of daughters.
According to Maine Death Records, Daniel died in Millinocket in 1916 of a gunshot wound to the leg, after being mistaken for a bear. Jennie remarried.
Records for Sophie's children say he was born in Ireland. (He may have come to Canada on a famine ship.)
US Census and Maine birth records for Jennie's children suggest he was born in NB, Canada. (Yes, they are absolutely the same man.)
One family story said he'd been preparing for priesthood ...
My mother told me that he'd left a family behind ...
Find-a-Grave gives Daniel's life span as approximately 1847-1916. That conflicts with the US Census accounts.
I have a copy of his Maine death record, but his exact date, birthplace and parents are still a mystery.
He may have been raised by a French-Canadian family (different surname) near St-John.
Anything that anyone can share would be useful.
