According to the 1900 census Andrew's parents were from Germany and his occupation was Barber. In 1920 he says his father was more specifically from Alsace-Lorraine.
In the 1875 NY State census for district 2, ward 6, Buffalo NY, there is an Andrew BECKER, age 20, occupation Barber, listed as son in the household of George BECKER, age 58, born Germany, occupation Shoe Maker. George's wife was Julia, age 50, also born in Germany. Their other children were: John, 16, Henry, 13, Rosa, 10, and Sophia, 6.
In the same census in district 3, ward illegible, Buffalo NY there's a Godlieb BODAMER, age 65, born Germany, occupation laborer, with his wife Phillipin, age 65, born Germany and daughters Emilia, age 21, and Louisa, age 19.
In the 1855 NY state census, same location, there are 3 older BODAMER children, Phillipine, August and Henry.
Just taking a quick look online I see they were married 31-July-1918 in Manhattan, NY and that she made her first passport application 14-Aug-1918 with the intent to travel to Australia on 20-Aug-1918 aboard the S.S. Sonoma out of San Francisco, CA. At the time of her application her husband Edward was stationed at Camp Merritt in NJ.
If he died in the war I think your best bet for finding details would be to apply to the National Archives for his service record.
I need help in tracing my husband'a family roots. His parents are now deceased. They are Gijbertus and Fredrieka Bekkers(der Kinderen). Both born in 1906. Anyone able to give me some information on either of his parents or both of them? Thanks.
