Stephen was born19 May 1791 (1851 census says Kenwyn or 1861 census says Gwennap, Cornwall) He and Elizabeth Jelbert (somewhat prolific transcriber/enumerator error - nee Gilbert) born 18 June 1791 in Redruth, Cornwall. They married in 17 Aug 1809 in Redruth.
They had 8 children all christened in Redruth probably the Church of Redruth since that's where they were married.
a. Stephen b. 6 Apr 1812, ch 25 apr 1812. This is my legacy. He came to the US
b. Harriet ch 5 Mar 1815 came to Naughton, Michigan as housekeeper
c. Edwin ch 30 Mar 1817 came to Mineral Point / Linden, Wisconsin as blacksmith and miner. Died in early 40s by horse kick in the head
d. John ch 18 Apr 1819. I have no other information - father's will (1861) says John's in Australia.
e. Henry ch 1 Apr 1821 family note says he died Cuba
f. Elizabeth ch 15 Mar 1823 married Michael MacCooey (McCovey in 1861 Redruth census) from Newry, Down, they had 4 children, lived and died in Redruth.
g. Caroline ch 5 Oct 1825 married Thos Vivian. Lived and died in Redruth. Father's executrix.
h. Matilda ch 19 Jul 1830, came to Iowa (US) with brother Stephen and family in 1860. Married here to Mr. Knotwell (no first name or BMD). Don't know if she stayed or went back to Cornwall.
I'd love to know what happened to John. The name Bawden is seated in Cornwall - and John Bawden is a very common name. I would love to find an Ozzie who could help with resources.
