My great-great grandmother, Elizabeth MOGNETT, was supposed to have been born in Virginia. The place is possibly Isle of Wight county on 21 May 1811. I have no documentation for that date. She married Jordan SANDERS in Henry County, Indiana, U.S.A. in 1833. She married John HEATER in 1853 and James COX in 1862, both in Edgar County, Illinois U.S.A. She had sons named Zeno, William Jesse, and John Davis SANDERS. Two daughters were born from HEATER, Mahala and Mary. If you are searching this family and have any information I would be grateful. I have more information on the sons but not on her ancestry.
Ramona Mae Irene Hurley (Gerkhen?) was born in Omaha, Douglas, Nebraska Circa May 20 1906 and was born a twin, her twin sister passed at birth. My grandma Ramona Mae aka to us, Nona or Marnie Centers (Centers is her married name) spent most of her early years 0-5 living with her mother who was a "woman of the night" as I understand or for lack of a better word, she was a prostitute. From my understanding, my grandmother was found and placed in forster care in Nebraska after she spent countless nights waiting under stairwells or outside of bars/brothels for her mother. After Ramona was found and placed in fostercare, her mother would stand outside of the oprhanage to see her but the orphanage would not allow them to speak so she watched her play from a far.
My grandmother died in Gold Hill, Oregon in 2002. We do not have record of whom her mother (or father) was but simply heard her say the name Hurley and Gerkhin.
Looking to find her mother (father if possible) and the orphanage my grandmother was placed in. Ramona left the orphanage during her teen years and was on her own until marrying my grandfather Leroy Centers in California Circa 1924 (or as we know).
I am aware during the late 1800s and early-mid 1900s there were orphanage trains which delivered numorous amounts of young children from different parts of the world (a lot of them were from over sea's) however I read there was a train full of children who found their way into Omaha, Nebraska during the late 1800s and early 1900s.
