Thought I'd be smart, not so sure I was. I started one tree for both sides of my family, at first it was simple now it seems overwhelming. Is there a way of moving an entire family to start another tree?
looking for family of Thomas danvers johnston before arriving in Australia. his birth at Calderwood Stromness Scotland around 1834, arrived in Australia 1858 he married Anne Roberts 1861 Westleyan church Rylstone NS W Australia Anne was Irish born?1841 they had 5 children.
While searching on the Internet for the familyname Veenhoff (family of mother's side) I stumbled upon a Veenhoff, named Jacob Veenhoff. He arrived on SS Colon from Cristobal, Canal Zone, Panama ont the 5th of January 1916. On arrival (1916) he is, according to the documents 46 yrs old. So he must have been born in 1869/1870, a precize date is not given in the documents. He is chief steward on the ship, sailing for Hamburg America Line. His final destination is Mrs. J Veenhof (wife), living at 168 West 98th Street in New York. Don'nt know her familyname.
My question for now is, whether this Jacob Veenhoff is a direct member of my Veenhoff-branche. He is born in Groningen, Netherlands. Searching regional archives produces a few Jacob Veenhoff's. One as son of Diederik Veenhoff (28 yrs) and Hinderkien Dilling, wife of Diederik, born May 4th 1871.
Does anyone know more on this Jacob Veenhoff ? I would appreciate any reactions and hope to solve another Veenhoff-puzzle.

Hi everyone. I have recently updated my family tree. I'm so excited to be able to collect my family's history for future generations. With the advances in the internet since 1994 when it was last updated I though maybe I could expand back a few more generations. What I know so far is that one of my relatives supposedly immigrated from Sweden, but we don't know when or how. I have his DOB and DOD, name of wife and children (all after he immigrated) and where he died at. The family story is that when he arrived in the US he was unable to get the immigrations clerk to understand his last name so they changed it to Smith. Is there any way to find out more information about him? Maybe records of when he arrived and his family info back in Sweden? Thanks in advance for any guidence you can provide.
