When I try to upload my raw data from 23andMe, I get a message that says something along the lines of "we can't open that file type, but would like to someday. We'll let you know if that ever happens."
I believe it's a simple text file. Which files are accepted? Can't I just change the file and resubmit it? It's exactly what I downloaded from 23andMe so it seems strange that myHeritage mentions 23andMe by name as one of the DNA report sites you can upload..
I am new to MyHeritage but have been reseaching my family for over 40 years. MyHeritage makes it very easy to expand your family tree. Find a person in another tree and import it into yours. This is great but if the information is incorrect it spreads through the site like a virus. Most of the trees I have looked at so far offer no sources for their information. These should be considered skeptically before blindly importing them. As an example consider an ancestor of mine, Rober Kennedy, b. 1791, near Schenectady NY. A search will find him in many trees at MyHeritage. His parents will be listed as John Kennedy, Jr and Nancy Wasson. If anyone had bothered to look at the records for the Dutch Reformed Church in Schenectady they would see that his baptismal record shows his parents as John and Mary Kennada. There is a john Kennedy, Jr, and Nancy Wasson and the baptismal record shows that they too had a son, Andrew Moore, 141 days after Robert was born. How could any woman have two children 141 days apart! There are several outher primary sources, porbate, property, etc, that show that Robert's parents are not John Kennedy, Jr and Nancy Wasson.
The point is to look for sources before importing from someone else's tree. If anyone is interested I am attaching the complete Robert Kennedy document.
Hello, I would appreciate any help that can be given. I'm looking for information on my great grandfather, specifically his parents or any other relatives. Alexander Campbell B- abt. May 1, 1886 possibly Brooklyn, NY D- abt. 1940 Brooklyn, NY. His wife's name is Mary Ellen Gilfoyle. We have little info to go on as my grandmother said he was "a child of the streets". We do know he was a Vaudeville actor, a tap dancer and owned a tap dancing studio at one point in time. He is also mentioned in a book about "The White Hand Gang", an Irish gang in Brooklyn. He lived in a building with someone that was murdered because of the gang. There may be a familial connection or some kind of connection. My grandmother didn't really elaborate. It took her years and years to finally tell us that. The address of the building is 452 Warren Street in the Red Hook district of Brooklyn. That would have been in 1920. We also know of a half brother by the name of Jimmy but no other information. Any information and help would be really appreciated. Thank you! Kristan
Seeking for birth information for Basilio Magno de ARSOLINO (Arselino, Ascendino). Born abt 1876. Lived and died in Brazil, but we believe his parents were from ITALY. Sons Rene Magno de Arsolino and Manuel Magno de Arsolino.
I have a question regarding guests accounts and how much information they can view in my Family Tree.
The audience for my family tree are mostly of the older generation which means they are less computer savvy; when I give them a link to the family tree, it shows the tree as a Guest Account which means they are not able to see "living people" as those names and information are marked as 'Private'.
Is there any way around this for the older generation that do not want to sign-up / create a new MyHeritage account just to see the Family Tree in full view?
