Hello and welcome to the PROKOSCH Family Board. I am researching my Prokosch line and also 4 - 5 others... trying to make a connection. This is what I have learned.
Many of our Prokosch families lived in small villages in Austria (Bohemia), on the border of Germany. They spoke German as their native tongue. In fact 4 or 5 of the (Minnesota) Prokosch lines lived within a few kilometers of each other. My family’s village was called Trohatin, now known as Drahotin in the Czech Republic. Many of the Prokosch families immigrated to the U.S. in the mid to late 1800’s and quickly headed to New Ulm, MN.My family later settled in Bird Island, Minnesota in Renville County. Here is sample of my family line with village, house number and dates:
Josepho Joannes & Kunegunde (Beckin) Prokosch-Trohatin about 1680’s
Andreas & Margaretha (P.) Prokosch -Trohatin #6(1721 - 27 Nov 1803)
Jakob & Faustina (Schröpfer) Prokosch-Trohatin #6 (1768 - 13 Oct 1841)
Franz & Barbara (Wiesner-Lilla) Prokosch-Horauschen #5 (10 Oct 1842 – 11 Feb 1899) USA, Melmitz/Melnice #41 and Amplatz/Oplotec #35, Immigrated 13 Sep 1879 Bremen-Baltimore SS OHIO
Joseph Peter & Margaret (Remiger) Prokosch- Melmitz/Melnice #41 (22 Sep 1867-15 Jan 1938) Bird Island, MN, USA
George Carl & Gertrude (Walter) Prokosch -Bird Island, MN (1894-1979)
Vernard George & Helen Marie (Mitchell) Prokosch -Bird Island, MN
Mark G & Elizabeth (Smith) Prokosch -Tampa, FL
In addition to Trohatin/Drahotin, Horousany/Horauschen, Melmitz/Melnice, I have also found mention of other Prokosch lines in these villages: Zemschen/Tremesne, Possigkau/Bezdekov, Hostoun/Houstau, Sidlakov/Schilligkau, Horsovsky Tyn/Bischofteinitz, Muttersdorf/Mutenin, Mantov, Kschakau/Krakov, Mirschikau/Mirkov, Luditz, Hvozdany/Hoslau, Berg/Hora Svateho Vaclava, Destna, Wottawa, Liskovec/Haselberg, Tscharlowitz, Natschetin, Kleinsemlowitz/ Klein Wonetitz/Boneticky, Raschnitz/Mracnice, Radelstein and Ronsperg/Ronsperk/Pobezovice.
