I am searching for any information about the parents of James K. SMITH born in 1859 in Illinois. James married Mary Anna BERG in Washington in 1892. They had three sons born in Washington state in 1893, 1896, and 1900. James' death certificate lists William SMITH and Barbary CLINGER as his parents. Thank you for your help!
Is it possible that CLINGER wasn't Barbary's maiden name? I found the following family in 1880 in Blue Ridge, Piatt, IL:
KLINGER, Daniel R. age 57, b. OH, father b. PA, mother b. VA
wife Barbara age 40, b. OH, both parents b. OH
dau Mary age 19 b. IL
son John age 17 b. IL
dau Isabella age 14 b. IL
son Peter age 12 b. IL
dau Emma age 8 b. IL
son Jesse age 4 b. IL
stepson SMITH, James age 20 b. IL
stepson SMITH, Frank age 18 b. IL
stepson SMITH, Edward age 16 b. IL
stepdau SMITH, Ida age 14 b. IL
stepdau SMITH, Willimaid age 12 b. IL
In the 1900 census your James SMITH states that his father was born in IL and his mother in OH.
There's a death record for Barbara KLINGER, b. 1-Mar-1838 in OH, d. 27-Dec-1918 in Blue Ridge, Piatt, IL. Maiden name was DAWSON.
There's a marriage record for a James SMITH, age 22, b. Centerville, Piatt, IL, son of William H.H. SMITH and Barbara DAWSON, to Sulie E. SPRATT, age 19, b. DeWitt Co, IL, dau of James SPRATT and Elizabeth WHEELER, on 30-June-1881 in DeWitt Co, IL.
The 1870 census for Sangamon, Piatt, IL has this household:
SMITH, Barbara age 32 b. OH
James age 10
Frank age 8
Edward age 6
Ida age 3
William age 6/12
Charles age 24
Sadie age 20
John age 19
Since the 1870 does not list relationship to head of household, it is uncertain how the last three individuals are related to Barbara and her children. If her husband, William, was much older these could be his children from a first marriage. Or they could be his younger siblings.
The 1860 census, same location:
SMITH, W.H. age 42 b. OH
Barbara age 23 b. OH
Charles age 14 b. IL
Mary age 12 b. IL
Sarah age 10 b. IL
John age 8 b. IL
James age 7/12 b. IL
This would seem to indicate that the older SMITH children were William's by a first marriage.

I'm looking for information pertaining to my Grandfather Lewis Smith married to Frances Wozniak (originally form Minnesota).
They had 13 children and remained in NJ until 1918 where they moved to Philadlphia and took the last saying his (Lewis)father was considered the black sheep of the family however our grandfather stated he had brothers and sisters. My Dad never talked about his side of so if anyone can assist with information it would be very helpful. I do know my GGfather was born in Alsa Lorraine but came over before Germany took over. No idea about my GGgrandmother however I think my GGgrandfather was either a cobbler or a gentleman-gentleman. Please if you are an uncle, aunt, 1,2 cousin and you have information please e-mai me.
