Do you know if the Samuel Inmon RITCHEY you are looking for was a twin?
In later censuses Isabelle is listed as Betsey. On the death records for sons James and Matt and daughter Nannie she is listed as Elizabeth Jane RUDD. TN death record for James Anderson RITCHEY says he was born 19-June-1871 and died 6-May-195. He was the son of Samuel Anderson RITCHEY and Elizabeth Jane RUDD. Informant was Mrs. G.B. MONTGOMERY (This was his sister, Nancy/Nannie). He is buried in Morganton Cemetery, Loudon Co, TN.
The 1900 census is almost impossible to read. There are two RICHIE families living side by side in Civil District 5 of Loudon Co, TN. Both heads of households were born June 1871. One head of household is definitely named James. The other might have a name that begins with "I" but it is very faded. The latter has a wife born in May, possibly 1877 and 2 children, a son born Oct 1896 and a dau. born in Mar 1899. This couple was married 4 yrs. James and his wife were married 7 yrs and had 3 children.
There's a TN marriage record for S.A. RICHEY to Elizabeth J. RUDD on 13-Feb-1870 in McMinn Co, TN.
I took a look for you for a Samuel RITCHEY born in TN around 1843 and I'm having trouble pinning him down. There are 2 on the 1850 census. The first appears at age 8 in Maury Co, TN, in the household of Robert RITCHEY, age 55, b. VA and Ellen age 44, b. NC. Other children in that household are: Robert, Gilliam, Jesse, and Sarah.
The second appears at age 5 in McMinn Co, TN, in the household of Samuel RITCHEY, age 44, b. TN and Anne age 44, b. TN. Other children in that household are: Elizabeth, William, Sarah, John, Cynthia and Mary. There is also an 88 yr old Ann DUGAN, b. VA, living with them.
Since S.A. RITCHEY and Elizabeth J. RUDD were married in McMinn Co. in 1870, the second Samuel is the more likely match.
I can not find a Samuel Ritchey born between 1840 and 1846 in TN who's father's name was Henry.
By 1860 Robert, Ellen and their children have moved to Lawrence Co, AR. Samuel and his children are still in McMinn Co, but it appears his wife is gone.
In 1900 Samuel says both of his parents were born in TN, which doesn't necessarily mean anything because people got that wrong all the time, or it could be an indication that his parents were Samuel and Anne.
