YDNA Carpenter & variant names - All male Carpenter/Zimmerman Cousins are invited.
We are looking for addtional Carpenter/Zimmerman Cousins from Canada, England, France, Germany, Switzerland, and of course the USA.
There are 3 main lines of Carpenters in the northern part of the USA who are believed to be related back in England. Two are confirmed genetically.
Many of the southern Carpenters may be from these Carpenter lines directly or related through connections in England.
There are many other Carpenter lines of English descent in America, other countries and those still in the United Kingdom still not tested.
Many Swiss or German Zimmerman/Carpenters are confused with the English Carpenters & vice versa.
It is possible, but far from proven, that some of the English Carpenter lines came from France and are related to the French Carpentier (Charpentier) lines.
The 37- marker test is recommended. Updated July 2015 JRC - Join us at:
The Carpenter Cousins Y-DNA Project is designed for Carpenter/Zimmerman and related surnames who have a genetic relationship in efforts to complete a genealogical paper trail to a common ancestor. This Y-DNA project is not a Haplogroup or Haplotype project, it is not a geographic or area project, it is not a deep ancestry project, nor do we track MTDNA or Family Finder results. This is a Carpenter Cousins Y-DNA Project.
After purchasing a DNA test, you will be able to join this surname project and collaborate with its members at Family Tree DNA.
DNA projects create opportunities for people to work with others to explore their common genetic heritage. Project membership is free and voluntary. Members may join or leave a project at any time.
