The links page is indeed somewhat buried under activities.

My recommendation is that you add these links to the welcome message instead.

To edit the welcome message click the "Edit this text" link above the message.

Then in the edit box that appears, click the LINK icon (which the 6th on the left in the second row. Add the URL and the text to show add the link.
