Cross referencing multiple trees, associating and smart matching

I and other family members appear in several family trees.  I cannot find any function that allows the same person to be cross-referenced across multiple trees.  Is there any such feature?  For example a URL that links from one tree to another.

The job of family historian is also split between members of the family.  This results in multiple trees on the one site with some common members.  A member appears only to be able to be asscoaited with one person on one tree, not with one person in several trees?  Is this possible or is any development in this area coming?

Finally it would be nice to smart match between trees on the same site.  Merging GEDCOMs results in multiples of the same person whereas smart matching allows the matches to be analysed and merged intelligently.  Is this supported?

Thanks,

Tony

Hi Tony,

These are all very good ideas! Although we currently do not have such features, I will report them to our Research and Development team for high consideration.

It makes sense to have trees connected through individual links. Perhaps there could be an option for advanced associations as such for serious genealogists.

Hi Aviv,

Interesting reply to Tony.  I certain would appreciate being able to merge two trees on the same site, particularly if there are several overlaps between the trees.  One could then produce one large family tree from two smaller, separate ones.  Have their been any new developments along those lines?

Regards

Brian

Hi Brian,

It is still only possible to merge GEDCOM files using Family Tree Builder.

We will add links between trees onilne in the new future.

Hi Jorge,

There has been some improvement.

We released a new version of Smart Matches a while ago, on the online family site.

Now, when you have a smart match with another tree, you can confirm it. If the other site manager confirms it as well,

a link between  your two trees will be created, via this smart match.

This link is manifested as a page both of you can see with this match, and on which you can add related comments.

Regards,

Noam
