Help - Problems creating an editable tree

I would like to have my tree editable online so that other members can keep it updated as well. From the reading I have done, I realize that when I publish from  FTB this will not be an editable tree for members. It is my understanding that I must use a GEDCOM tree to have members have this feature. I have tried adding a the tree as a GEDCOM numerous times and none of them have had the editing feature. What am I doing wrong? Help!!! Thanks!

Here's a question similar to yours with the answer from MyHeritage Support

If a family tree was created with Family Tree Builder, only you will be able to edit it in the Family Tree Builder program. You can publish the tree to your online family site, but it will be read-only there, which means that the family tree will be displayed in its full glory, but it cannot be edited online. We are currently developing the new system that will allow Family Tree Builder trees to be editable online as well, by you or by other family members that you designate. Esther / MyHeritage Team

Hi,

I'm not sure why it doesn't work for you. I've just tested it and it seemed to work fine.

In order to test this, I created a separate site on MyHeritage called mytesttree and made sure I gave the gedcom file the name mystesttree.ged when I created it from FTB. I then went to the site and imported the gedcom. All boxes in the tree come with their usual sign and are editable as if you had created the site on MH to being with.

While on the subject: beware of two draw-backs:

1. Of course, while your website is active, you'ld better not use FTB to update your local versio, because I don't believe their will be a way to reconcile updates that you made locally whith updates that other made more or less simultaneously on the website version.... So the better practice would be to make your updates on the online-version as well. Or you willl have to re-apply all edits that have been made on teh website manually to your local version on FTB and then re-export...

2. FTB has more functionality than MH. So when you export, you will loose certain items. E.g. as far as I have been able to determine thusfar, adoptions are lost. So your better option may be to use the second way-of-working I described above: Export/import, but re-apply changes to your local version and re-export from time to time. I'm in the early days of experimenting myself. So no guarantees.... :-)

Good luck
