Sync Problems in Tree Builder V.7

Hi All,

I just joined and installed Tree Builder Version 7.   It worked fine for a few days but now it has problems syncing to my family webpage. 

First, I created the family tree using Tree Builder and then published it to the webpage.  I've also checked off the box that doesn't allow family to update it online (webpage).  I figured it might screw a few things up.

My relatives were able to make changes to the family tree (no just uploading photos)?   I believe this may have created one of the first problems in syncing with the tree.   However, it continues and I don't know why.

Since the Tree Builder wouldn't allow me to update my most recent changes.  I downloaded the Webpage version and installed it to the tree and removed the old one.   Then proceeded to make the changes.  It seem to work but periodically it still won't sync?

Any suggestions or advice.

I have the same problems and have sent 7 emails and have had 2 computer-generated replies.If there is a problem it would be polite to receive an email and then we would be so worried.I posted on this Post as others are confrontational.I do not want to take sides I just want to work on my tree.I really hope somebody does something

Hi, I was having sync issues too; it would hang at 99% forever and not upload. I remembered I decided to use a different email address to log in and when I switched back to the original email that I used to set up the account I had no problems syncing (I guess I needed to give my second email account permission to make changes to the site lol). I had to make this change on the MH software installed on my computer. Hopefully this bit of information helps someone. Donna Sealed

Well, "magically" my FTB software now working properly and no sync problem anymore, at least since monday morning though. I guess they have fixed it somehow. I hope yours fixed too.

I just installed FTB v7 too.  I had a couple of sites already, and created another.  FTB was able to download the 2 original sites, but won't sync any of the 3.  The sync hangs up at 96%, and if I hit Cancel, it goes to Step 4 of 4, but stays at 96 % for a long, long time.  Finally it says Syncing the Project has failed.  Please check the sync log for details.  It took a long time and a lot of looking to find the sync log - the User Guide never mentions it.

The Sync Log says Sync Started at 15 MAY 2013 19:32:42 GMT-5

  • Wrong password specified
But I can't find anywhere to specify the password.  I can set or change it on my site, in my web browser, but how do I set the password that FTB uses?
 
Unrelated but also very frustrating is the User Guide's info on Duplicates.  It describes using the FInd Duplicates tool, but ignores the usage of the "Ignore" choice in the duplicates list.  I checked the Ignore, but the next time I rand the Find Duplicates, they still all showed up, even though they were not really duplicates anyway.

Well, I'm not sure.  But trying it again now, I found two ways.

At the very top of the program window, ABOVE the icons, there's a command marked "Sync (publishing)".  I clicked on that, and then selected "Sync Settings".   In the Sync Settings pop-up box, there are two things to try.

1:  on the line that begins with "Last sync:" and then a date, there's a link for "View log" which does that.

2:  a bit lower on the left is a link that says "Show overall sync status" which also gives a report.

 The first way, #1 above, shows that my problem was an incorrect password.  My site, created on GenCircles, uses a different password than my MyHeritage account does.  And the GenCircles site's passwords cannot be changed.

I think there was a way to view the log at the end of the failed sync, but I didn't notice it at the time.

I see it now! I'm not sure how I missed that. I got this:

 

  • Sync has failed. Cannot communicate with the synchronization process.

 

But I tried closing out the program and restarting it, and now suddenly it is syncing. But I don't know if that's what caused it to work or if it was something on My Heritage's end.

 Thanks so much for you help! I'll know what to do from now on.

As I recall, I couldn't sync right after installing FTB7 either, and had to restart my computer to make it work.

And then today, while attempting to check on syncing, I accidentally synced a different file with my online Family Site!  Darn.  Oh, well, I have no other members, and don't really have any family with email who could contribute anyway.
