FTB 7.0 sync - Ability of other family members to edit online tree
Mahmood Hassan, London
- Close

I just installed Family Tree Builder 7.0 on my PC and after reading that Sync would then not let other family members edit the family tree online, I specifically select not to Synch but it still disabled the Add and Edit buttons on the family tree online. We currently have 2,200 members who have been updating the online family tree.

If myheritage.com team memebrs could please help me to put it back the way it was as I have been bombarded by all those our family members who are unable to update the online family tree.

Please myheritage.com >> do not release such a halfcooked applicatiuon that creates major such major problems.

Dear Mahmood,

Thank you for contacting us.

I took care of your problem and changed the tree source back to a WEB tree so it would be editable by other members as well.

I would like to note that the application asked you if you would like to restore the web tree, and there was a warning that it will block the access to other members to edit the tree.

Please, let me know if you need any further assistance.

Hi Daniel,

I'm having a similar issue back on the 6.0 version and now, without any sync command, using the 7.0 version. I have to keep my tree on the online version to offer the possibility to other members to interact with it. However I have the habit to export a Gedcom file from it to check for errors using FTB. Imediatly after importing the GEDCOM file to FTB, using a new Project name or not, the FTB overwrites my online tree, locking the tree for another members to edit it. I've been correcting it importing the GEDCOM back to the site as a new tree and deleting the locked one, but this unlink all members to the tree and to their photos and I have to expend hours to fix it. So, since for now Syncing is useless to online tree users, MyHeritage would have to offer to its users the possibility to use FTB as an offline tool as well.

Thanks in advance,

Rodolfo

Hi Rodolfo,

Sorry for the bad experience Rodolfo, we informed our developers of these two complaints and we are planning to open up access for other members to use the family tree as-well. This would blur up the difference between the Family Tree Builder tree type and a normal GEDCOM/WEB tree.

I've contacted you via email so we could see if there's any other trees that we can sort with you.

Hi Daniel,

looks like I do have the same problem with the Family Tree locked up for other members to do editing while online. Please let me know how to unlock it so they can have the full excess for editing.

Hi there.

Same problem with my tree. I used FTB 7.0 to check my GEDCOM file for errors and I am quite sure I selected NOT TO SYNC with the online tree. Still I have lost the possibility to edit the online tree and so have all my other admin members. I have emailed the MHT team 6 days ago to help and fix this but had no reply so far.

I think that the FTB 7.0 is synching the data with the online tree, regardless of the setting causing the EDIT buttons to disappear.

I noticed that the FTB 7.0 is quite unstable and crashing a lots (Win7 Pro, 32Bit, SP1) and there are some other "design/layout" bugs as well. I agree with Mahmood that the FTB 7.0 should have been tested more, specially on major features like the sync.
