How do I link trees owned by other family members? - Forums

I have a family tree created and found out that another family member already has a tree set up for her part of the family on MyHeritage. How do we link the trees so that family members in one tree can still see the 'other' branches of her tree also?

Hi Stephen,

To merge trees that already exist you can use the merge tool in Family Tree Builder.

First of all import the two trees from the site to your FTB and then use the merge tool.

You can then publish your merged tree as a seperate tree on the site.

This is I would say, very inconvenient.

THe developers should allow at least linking individuals in different treas, if not merging.

For example I have photos for many relatives uploaded to the web site. Thus merging the trees locally would not help because the photos would be lost...

Has MyHeritage come up with a way to link trees together yet?

(As previously stated, using the client is not a realistic nor amenable option).

If this isn't possible, then that almost makes the site useless to us, since our overall tree is going to be enormous. Parts of the family just aren't going to care about lots of the branches, and I know that most of the family is not going to pony up for a premium subscription. Many just want to put in their 4-12 leaves and be done with it. If we all have to work on a mutli-thousand-leaf tree, then I might as well stop now before I get any farther into this dead end.

Hi Joe,

We don't support links between trees at this time,

but it is a feature we will add in one of our next updates.

In the meanwhile, feel free to keep building your tree.

We have users who have reached 100,000 individuals and more, and they don't have any trouble adding more.

But for the 100,000 tree, does every family member who accesses the tree to edit/add to it need to have a premium account?

Or is it that one or two of the family members are inundated with family info and they put it in the tree themselves?

To host a tree of more than 2500 individuals,

you will need to have a PremiumPlus Site.

Only one of the Site members \ managers needs to upgrade the site,

and then all of the members can enjoy it.

The Site Manager can choose whether to allow other members to edit the tree.
