As my ancestry has NO connections with the USA or Canada Only Europe and South Africa Why can the searches be given logical and easy to find searches in these areas- Spicific only to these areas. I do not want every gravestone or census in the USA ETC. Very frustrating!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I agree with everything said in your postings. I am from Australia. I first paid for a discounted super search subscription but the only useful results were the family trees which I could probably have gotten without paying.
I then found that my subscription allowed me to contact other free users but not a paid up user. A bit bizarre.
As there was someone I wanted to particularly contact I paid for a premium subscription. If the databases do not improve I will also not be renewing my subscription.
Myheritage bases its entire perception of things genealogical on the base that the USA is the greatest user of its recources and therefore must be fed at the exclusion of the rest of the world. I argue that while 20 million yanks may be interested in genealogy- 800Million others non americans are ignored - or not catered for AT ALL. Its like we dont exist but the perception that we need or want the huge databses of American "junk" is the misguided perception of myheritage- but becuse they ae fixed in their opinion and cannot or will not change- the only way around this stupidity is to not re-subscribe. I doubt that I will continue my membership- and many others too- so what does that say about myheritage-

I AGREE 110% WITH THOSE COMMENTS, except I don't subscribe to MyHeritage as I use FTB as my primary database, and publish to my own website. There are other users in the world apart from from the USA! I had the same problem when I received an email about one of their latest search acquisitions. It said I could find info on some of their USA records. It mentioned my father and mother with listings in USA census records, when in fact neither of my parents were ever in USA! In fact they never left Australia! It even had their birth & death dates correct! I think it is a "ruse"to entice people to these acquisitions!
I'm always telling my friends to try MyHeritage to at least look at what they provide, but no longer, except to push Family Tree Builder as a genealogical database.
Also one other gripe. Why do the Americans insisit on pronouncing "GENEALOGY" as "GENEOLOGY" when archive buildings spell it as "GENEALOGY". (Watch the American version of "Who do You Think You Are"). This annoys me no end!
Also see my reply in FTB forum to a user re dates. Another "pampering" to the USA re the way dates are written!
The simple fact of the matter is that geneAlogy (if you look anywhere on MyHeritage you will see it spelled this way) as a popular hobby originated in the US and the market is dominated by Americans. Its not something we designed or planned in order to thwart your efforts at researching your family tree.
The opposite is true in fact. Our CEO, Gilad Japhet, saw this fact and is dedicated to creating the largest database of worldwide records. His mission is to bring together as many records databases from around the world as possible. We have teams of people who are working every day to cooperate with owners of different genealogical databases in countries around the world.
However, we had to start somewhere. And somewhere (we are a business after all and have to make business decisions) is the US. It would be silly to ignore the largest market in the world.
Keep in mind that SuperSearch is an extremely recent addition to the MyHeritage range of services. It's less than a year old! Compare that to Ancestry that has been around for decades.
Already we have more global databases than they do. And this is only the beginning. Granted, it will take your patience while we do the work to make SuperSearch much more global than it is, but I assure you, the vision is there. Now we are on the journey.
I know your frustrated, but we in the USA still love you Aussies. Here in Texas, we say the same things about people from Boston, or the Bronx in New York..."Why can't they learn to speak regular English?" and we say it with our long, drawn-out, semi-southern drawl that would make people in England, and probably in Austrailia, shiver with disgust. As they would say in Chicago, "It don't mean nothin'," which means don't let the little things get to you. I do understand your frustration with MyHeritage, though. It seems that everytime there's an issue, like yours, the usual answer from the experts is "that's not available yet, but we're working on it", or "we'll forward that great suggestion to our system writers". In my case, I would love better access to the information in Kent County, England, since that's where my oldest ancestor was born in 1535, but I can't seem to find any records for his ancestors. Anyway, I wish your great success in your search for your ancestors, and try not to hate us in America too much. After all, we came from the same areas originally, and we weren't the ones who created My Heritage.
........................well please note that I will not be re-subscribing. Take this response as notice of my intent to finish with My Heritage. Your data serches are lacking usuful content for my purpose. I have done all the searches and the results are always the same regardless of the "advanced search details entered"
Yes, I have found that MOST Ancestry Sites are USA related. The WORLD did not only immigrate to the States you know. Very frustrating when I am trying to do research and all I get is reams of useless info re the States.
