I've problems with some of my familyes where the individuals has 2 or more partners. The partners is put in in wrong order. I've found out how to disconnect and put together partners again in MyHeritage, but it has only worked with one family. On the other familyes the partners goes back in the same order as I originally put them. Do you have any advice for mee?

This might be the long winded way of doing things but here goes.

I deleted the second partner from the site. Then I went into the details of the first partner and set their relationship as seperated. I then re added the second partner. Thnis worked for me!! Good luck!!

I changed my mind abouth deleting, but it still didn't work.

I disconnected Haagen (the man and my grand-grandfather) with both his wifes;  Karen and Stine.  The children followed the wifes. Then I disconnected Haagen with his parents and other relatives. At the end I deleted him from the tree. I was not able to delete Karen and Stine because they were connected with children and grandchildren... Then I gave Karen, the 1. wife, a husband by making a new profil of Haagen and I wrote the day of marriage. And there after I connected Stine with Haagen - and the problem was still the same. Stine appears as the first wife and Karen as the second.

This will make a problem for me when the day comes when I'lle make a book. I wonder if the best thing to do is to get a second program of MyHeritage and to copy my tree in to this in branches so that I might get it right?

Thank you for your answer, I'm sorry I didn't see it before to day.

I don't want to delete any of the persons because there is a lot of other names connected to theim.

What I have don is to disconnect both the wifes, then all the dates abouth marriage disabered from all the tree persones. The children followed the wifes.  Then I connected the husband and she who was the first wife together again and put in the date of marriage, the date when she died was already there. Then I connected the husband with his wife no. 2, but then I got the problem I've had the hole time. She was at once placed on the place as if she was the women he first married!

Originally I wrote the wife nr 2 as the wife nr. 1 because she was the one I knew best. I thougt it would be simple to put in the wife no. 1 later, but this has shown not to be so.

Dear Astrid,

Thank you for writing and we appreciate your patience regarding this matter. The suggestion above that was mentioned didn't focus on the deletion of the spouse but to mark it as separated.

Let me explain this a little more indepth:

When you have two marriages the system doesn't know how to differ which one was first by the dates, but if you mark one of the marriages as divorced or separated then the system will learn how to relocate the positions.

In order to mark a relationship as divorced you can do the following:

How do I show a divorce in my online tree?

Please, let me know how it works out for you.

Thank your for answering.

I don't remember if I "divorced" them  In my case the second wife married him after the first wife was dead. Should not this be enough for the program to see in which order the wifes should be listed? If not I wish you would change the software.

Because it would be wrong to put in a divorcement as long as she died. And if they newer was married?

Anyway;  I've alaready tried to delete all the tree partners and this worked! But I might have to do it once more time on the same persons because I put them in with the names: Hus Band, First Wife, Second Wife (in Norwegian). Thereafter i changed the names to Haagen, Karen and Stine along with their lastnames. And now it seems as if I can't seek for their names, and I don't get any smartmatches on them. Did you know this could happen if you changed the names?

Dear Astrid,

Thank you for writing back, I'm sorry for the delay again.

I would like to mention that if you edit your family tree from Family Tree Builder you can switch the order of the spouses, however in the family site online there is no possibility that I currently know of.

Just in case you decide to use Family Tree Builder (the software):

How do I change the order of spouses in Family Tree Builder?

I would like to mention that renaming a persons detail on the family tree might cause some errors on the Smart Matches you receive, however, they should give you updated results after awhile.

Could you explain more about how you are trying to seek their names? As we are not very familiar with this term and what does it mean on the family tree - do you mean the search option on the family tree online where you can search specific names?

Please, let me know.

Hi

I've deleted the three persons and put in the right names and by now it works fine.

I don't understand the difference between the program I aleready got and Family Tree Builder. And I'm not quite sure what you mean by "the family tree online".

Searching the names When going to the tree I was able to seek for the names Haagen, Stine and Karen as long as their branch was open. When searching for them in the menu Personer/Persons/Individuals it was not possibly. This was after first calling them Hus Band, First Wife, Second Wife and then changing their names to their proper names.

Hi Astrid,

Thank you for writing back.

We present all our customers two ways to view their family tree -

The first is the Family Tree Builder which is a free software we allow our customers to download, it is a robust tool for genealogists and presents you with many features.

The second is the family tree online - which is presented in the browser of your computer and which can be found if you login into www.myheritage.com.

I hope this makes more sense between Family Tree Builder and "family tree online".

Regarding the searching name - I could use the search function to find Karen and Haagen if I just looked for their first name, if I specified their middle name as-well the search function was not able to find them. This is due to the fact that our search function acts unexpectedly when searching for more than one name at the same time because it expects only one name. In order to search for example first name and last name you would have to use the advanced search and specify you are looking for the first name.

Hi Daniel,

Thank you for a clear ansver.

I will probably change to FTB in some time.

As for searching, when standing in the  "Person" I'm quit sure I searched only with the first name, but I've experienced in another website to that I could not search for the same as others, so perheps there is something wrong with my computer.

In any way, it now functions right. By deleting the persones involved and put them back again the wifes are now appearing in the right order :)

By for now,

Astrid
