Please, please can we have a search feature in the Smart Matches that we have already confirmed/rejected. I have hundreds of pages and would like to look up one tree owner. I am not going to be going through that many pages to find the one tree owner I need.

Don't waste your time ... You'll only get a response along the lines of:  "What a great idea!  I'll pass it on to the development team."   Canned response to EVERY suggestion.

Best thing I ever did was turn OFF stupid matches.

Hi,

thank you for your suggestion. We are very sorry, but we are not able to add this option at the moment. Maybe some day in future.

Best regards, Justyna

It seems to me that this request should not be that difficult to implement and would be of great benefit to your membership. Just another reason to wait out my year's subscription and not renew.

Dear Diane,

thank you for your feedback. Maybe it sounds easy, but it is not as you think. Please note that we are not able to launch each feature suggested by our users. We wish we could do it, however not always we can. We are working on Smart Matches improvments and I forwarded your inquiry to the right department.

Thank you for your understanding, Justyna

Dianne... what did I tell you?

Canned response (different wording, same meaning). I gave up trying to do anything productive with this site a long time ago. I'm just using it as an online tree to plug information into until I find another site that has A LOT more of the features I want.

Why do the words "bait & switch" come to mind? :)

Hi Shelley,

You hit the nail on the head there!! There is a lot that doesn't work right at this site, I clicked on your profile to see if I could get your email address to send a message and I kept being taken to my home page on the site. The other day I couldn't get out of someone else's site and back to my own even after restarting my browser. Another member told me the method to do that.

Anyway, my reason for writing is this: have you ever tried Tribal Pages? I have had my tree on there for a long time and what I like about it is the privacy settings which can be as lenient or as strict as you would like. It is also way cheaper and way easier to use. www.tribalpages.com. The privacy settings on here are really terrible especially if you invite others to your tree. When stuck in the other person's tree the other day I could have changed the privacy settings had I been so inclined, that is terrible. Also, Tribal Pages has a "note" capability which I use to tell stories or explain my conclusions on certain ancestors and why I think they belong on my tree. Nothing like that here.

Let me know what you think, Dianne

Hi Justyna,

The privacy settings are fine as long as you don't invite anyone to see your tree which to me defeats the purpose of having a website such as this. There are 2 things specifically that bother me.

1. If I invite someone into my tree they can see everyone, even living family members. This is not acceptable as I have promised all living people that I will not expose any of their information on the internet. I expect there is a method of going to each living individual on my tree and making them private but I have too many and it would take a tremendous effort on my part to hide each one.

2.  When I was "stuck" in someone else's tree the other day (they had invited me to be a member) I was shocked to discover I could do virtually anything I wanted even to change their privacy settings if I was so inclined. This is just not acceptable. Maybe this person had not set their privacy settings properly for this to happen I don't know.

The information regarding privacy settngs needs to be very much clearer on your website so each person is well informed about how their website is operating. Until that time I will keep my tree shut up as tight as possible and direct them to my online tree elsewhere where I can control what they see. I am quite happy to share my research but not when it exposes the information of the living people in my tree when I do not have their permission to share it with the world.

Thanks, Dianne
