Relationship Reports

When you use the relationship report option on the online tree; it doesn't give the relationship on it's a close relationship between the two people.  However on FTB when you do the same thing; it shows the relationship regardless of how close or distant the relationship is.  Might I suggest changing the site version so that it's similar to that used in the program; so it can show a relationship regardless of if it's close.

Hi Jason,

Thank you for writing to us.

The relationship report is limited for large trees like yours:

for direct ancestors/descendants, it will only show relationships of up to 20 degrees.

for non-direct relatives, it will only show the relationships for people that are 2 steps away.

If this was not what you referred to, please give me a specific example.

Kind Regards,
Lior

Thanks Lior, that's what I was referring to.  If you included less information, just year of birth & death, then could it be possible to include more steps?

Hi Jason,

Thanks for the reply.

The relationship report is limited for trees with over 5000 individuals in them, regardless of the amount of information you add for each individual.

We apologize for the inconvenience.

Best Regards,

Lior

If they can do it for FTB, I wonder why they can't do it online.

The relationship report is one of the things I like the best - and can not really use it, since I have over 5-6000 people in my tree.  The FTB - takes 10 seconds and you have the whole thing there, no matter amount of generations.  Really irritating.  In addition, on the smart-searches, I get up "direct ansestor" once in a while.  If it is under 20 generations, support told me - but what's the point?  We want this information.  If I had known this - I would have taken another system.  This was never told anywhere.  This pisses me off 100%.

Sorry to hear you were counting on the relationship report! I understand that it's an important feature to you. I've contacted the developers and asked them put improving on the algorithm that calculates the relationships on the roadmap as soon as they can.

Thanks for your feedback.

Hi,

As written here in this post, the Family Tree Builder is able to produce the report pretty quickly.

We are working on showing more connections in the online family site as well, I'm sorry it takes us that long.

And I'm not kidding, it was unique from ancestry.

It's the one thing that makes you unique from ancestry.com.  You should make it a priority.  As I now have many more members entering info on our tree, you can get lost without it.
