Me too!! I have communicated with lots of other genealogists over the years, and have created a number of gedcom files that include only a small portion of my file to share with those folks, and they have sent their gedcoms to me. My "Master" file includes over 4600 individuals in 1700 families, so the ability to merge other FTB files or gedcoms into my "Master" file would be a huge asset!!!
I upgraded to premium a couple of weeks ago, and have used the SmartMatch merge feature several times already. It works very well....similar to the SmartMatch feature of Family Tree Legends by Pearl Street Software (who merged with MyHeritage back in December of 2007).
But, SmartMatch merging with a family tree on the MyHeritage site is not what I'm looking for.
I would like to merge GedCom files into my FTB project, or merge two FTB projects, and have the result automatically deduplicated (or manually dedupe like the SmartMatch feature). This was a very popular feature of Family Tree Legends, using the command File--> Merge From GedCom. FTL had the same Import From GedCom command as FTB which creates duplicates, but also had a feature to Edit--> Find Duplicate Individuals to help with cleaning up errors in the import or merge.
Are there plans by MyHeritage to build the "Merge From GedCom" or "Find Duplicate Individuals" into FTB that was in the FTL software?
Merging would be great as I have three medium to large sized tree's for my family alone with each containing several thousand individuals. I have myself in all three and one branch is for my ancestors, my wifes, and an uncle. It would be nice to merge these up with the extended family pages out there as well. The Familysearch website has already started using "Ancestral file numbers" and this would be a great start for MyHeritage to base these on...
