Scrambled trees

I have constructed three separate trees and recently the program automatically resolved "inconsistences" which resulted in adding 300 to the main tree, who were all just repetitions of existing names so now there are same sex marriages (how modern!), marriages across families and generations and merging of several familiies into one. This has undone hours and hours of work and I don;t know what to do short of erasing it all and starting again. An added irritation is that smartmatches is throwing up cray things as a result of this. Help!

I also have had the software do the same deleting/switching of spouses and children.  I printed out branches just before saving the project.  When the project was opened later about 5% of the relationships were now wrong!

I have spent the majority of time now on MyHeritage repairing the bad connections caused by the software.

I have also found that using MyHeritage Forums will not accept 'replies' if you use FireFox as your browser.  This has been submitted using MS InternetExplorer.

Thanks for replying - I guess the only thing to do is start again, go as fast as possible, then print the result! I've emailed them directly twice with no reply as yet.

Hello Lior from MyHeritage team

I have just opened my tree and found it in such a mess that I couldn't believe it.

Searching the site for a means to contact the MyHeritage team and inquire as to what went wrong and I come across this posting from Lin Johnston and a reply by someone from MyHeritage.

What luck !!

My problem is the same as Lin Johnston's and I am hoping that the reply you have sent to her will also cover my problems.

Lior, can you please you please advise me how to recover my hours of data entry and so restore my tree.

Thanks, regards

John Judge

Hi John,

Thank you for writing.

I apologize for the delayed response.

I'm sorry to hear about the mess in your tree.

It might be a good idea to look in your computer, in My Documents> MyHeritage, in your project's folder, in Backup> Database, for an older version of the project without the errors.

Let me know if you need more help.

Kind Regards,

Lior

Hello Lior

Thank you for your response to my problem.

As you suggested I have been through the backups to find one that wasn't comprimised. I have found one by a process of illimination and deleted those that were corrupted as I worked through the list.

But, every time I opened a backup I appear to have created another version.  I now have to try and delete those extra versions.

Afraid that I am now very suspicious of the program and, when I have the time, will probably find another program and start all over again.

Thanks for your help in getting back to a clean copy.

Regards

John

Hi John,

I'm sorry to hear that you feel this way about our progeam.

When working on a backup, oyu need to make sure that once you work on the project continuously, you load it noramlly and not from the backup file, so that it doesn't open with a new name as a new project. You just go in Family Tree Builder to File> Manage Projects, choose the project and open it.

You can delete the extra versions in Manage Projects- just make sure they are not open at the same time.

I hope you give our program another chance.

Let me know if I can help you with any other questions.

Kind Regards,

Lior
