I have already had testing done at FamilyTree DNA, mtDNA and FamilyFinder as have my son, Y-DNA & FamilyFinder, and cousins, Y-DNA. Will we be able to link those previous results to our MyHeritage family trees?
Our family is just getting ready to start the DNA testing process. Were you happy with the company's that you and your son used? Did the data upload easily into Family Tree Builder? Is it worth the $? Thanks!
I've been involved with DNA testing for at least 4-5 years and have seen a lot of changes. I have had some very successful results - but many have been what you might call "negative" because my son's DNA has definitely indicated that my husband's family is not related to similar surnames. FamilyFinder has allowed me to prove that I am definitely kin to at least two lines that I had not been able to find documentary proof of the connection. I have found several new cousins and helped one person solve a paternity question. I do believe that you have to know a great deal about your own family from traditional research and be willing to exchange information to make the best use of DNA results of any kind. I have several 3rd cousin matches with FamilyFinder that can't be resolved because the other party has done no actual research and doesn't know the names of their great-grandfathers or where they lived. I have been very satisfied with FamilyTree DNA because of their huge database but I have also uploaded results to other third party sites like GedMatch.
So far there seems to be no way for me to use the DNA feature with MyHeritage because I upload by GEDCOM from my own genie program and I don't use Family Tree Builder.
I have the same question, but my data is from 23andme.com. I know many DNA testing companies have different ways of organizing the data, but I hope they're someway compatable to import.
We just bought a DNA test kit from 23andme, but have not opened it yet. Were the results able to be easily entered and processed as the MyHeritage reply suggested? Also, do you have experience with the National Geographic DNA project? Thanks in advance!
Thank you for writing to us.It is possible to add this information currently only in the Family Tree Builder by double clicking on the person's card > More > DNA markers > select the company the you tested with and enter the results.
I have to say that I don't really understand your answer. I use MyHeritage online only - I don't use the program Family Tree builder. When I double click on a person - I don't have an option for DNA markers, only to add people.
