Privileges for each member

I would like to see the ability to give each member their own privileges.  Currently you can only decide if "all members" can post content or "only webmaster" can post content.  Why can't I set each person up so that if I want them to have editing privileges I don't have to give it to the whole bunch?

I agree that the current permissioning model with only two roles is inadequate.  Microsoft has a decent permissioning model in their SharePoint software, providing three or four default roles, but also allowing the site administrator to create new roles with less or more permissions.  Then, the administrator can assign each site member to a permission role.

Forget the Microsoft model, it sucks.

I am thinking about phpbb or any other forum set up. You have such detail in what you can allow someone to do on the site.

 All I really need is:

PERSON's NAME:

  • Allow editing and adding content: Y/N
  • Allow editing and adding their own family connections: Y/N
  • Allow editing their own information only: Y/N
  • Allow them to make suggested changes: Y/N
  • Allow them to create posts, polls, and messages and send them: Y/
The default would be they are allowed to visit and view the information on the site with no editing or adding anything.

The "Allow them to make suggested changes: Y/N" would be a temporary change that would have to be approved by anyone who has top level access (webmaster or higher level)

Or if they are updating it tells you that they want to make a change, do you want to allow it. I noticed alot of info isnt the same as what I have. Or your emailed to allow after  seeing what was changed.
