A few relatives and I want to work together on an editable tree online. My plan was periodically to download the gedcom and all the images into Family Tree Builder (FTB) on my computer as a backup. Then, if the online tree gets screwed up somehow, we thought I could reload the tree from the local FTB copy. However, publishing the tree from FTB creates a tree with the photos all tagged but the tree and the photos are not editable. On the other hand, when I follow the guide to import the tree from a gedcom (exported from FTB), the people in the tree are no longer associated with the photos. All the work we have done to tag people in photos is lost in the reloaded editable tree. We are hopeful there is a way around this, but we can't seem to find it. If there is no way around this, I am going to have to ask for my subscription fee back. It's just too risky to do all that work associating and identifying people in photos only to have it all lost if the online tree gets messed up somehow.
Please tell us there is a way to create an editable online tree with editable tagged photos from an FTB tree with tagged photos. it's such an obviously needed capability; I just can't believe it doesn't exist. Thanks in advance for any guidance and suggestions.
I have had exactly the same experience, and also feel frustated that there appears to be no way to do this. I was interested to know what myHeritage's response was. It would seem obvious that the myHeritage site should not allow users to tag photos in one environment and not be able to export/import that information to the other environment.
Please let me know what the reponse was, and if there is a way to do this. Feel free to email directly to joewalker at hotmail dot com. We can't be the only two people in the world who are frustrated by this.
I too have a problem with updating the online family members. Could you not publish the response to the forum as well please. i dont see the add button. i would like to add dates and correct spelling.
thanks richard
Hi Ben,
Thank you for writing to us.
I answered you directly by email regarding this issue.
I can see you edit your tree in Family Tree Builder.
Therefore you won't be able to edit it directly on the site online. You can only edit it in Family Tree Builder and then publish the changes to your site.
i went through a panic attach recently as i had 2 trees one from FTB and the other from the website....Luckily i deleted the right one.
Hopefully with the next 'rev change', the software won't loose the pics and tagging ...
Good luck, i am enjoying the site tremendously.
Rich
