I have followed the direction in the faqs on how to delete a photo ( click on little tool on bottom right side of photo, then delete) but when I click on the little tool icon there is no option in the menu to delete the photo.
This is of a live person which uploaded from my Family Tree Maker on the computer, which I need to delete.
I also can't find how to hide living people either.
When you view a person't profile, go to the top right of their picture, there are icons in order-"View Photo", "Change Photo", and Delete Photo". You actually have to scroll over it though, because they don't appear unless you scroll over them.
Living people are automatically hidden from nonmembers of your tree, there is no way to hide them from members.
Thanks for answering! Sorry to be so ignorant, but I still can't find how to delete the photo.
I think I got the person's profile (The page has a silhouette set in pink area) on the left, and "view in tree-view in time line-view in time book" under neath the the photo/silhouette. But there are no icons in top right of picture.
In a blue strip above, there is this message......"This profile was published from the Family Tree Builder software program. To make any changes, use Family Tree Builder and then publish the tree again.Don't show this again"
Furthermore, I would like to add that each version of the system has its own advantages and limitations. The online version permits your tree to be edited by different end users (site members) and from any location (computer) with an internet connection.
On the other hand, the Family Tree Builder contains more features than the Family site, as the Tree consistency checker, the Check for duplicates tool, to name just a few.
If you want to upload your tree as a GEDCOM to your family site, please follow the instructions below:
1. Open the tree you want to export in the Family Tree Builder.
2. Go to 'File' > 'Export GEDCOM'.
3. Click 'Save As', choose the folder on your computer you’d like to save to and click 'Next'.
4. Follow the instructions of the wizzard and click 'next' on every step.
Then, please import the GEDCOM into your family site, following these steps:
1. Log in to myheritage.com
2. Go to the section 'Family Tree' > 'Import GEDCOM'
3. Browse for your GEDCOM
4. Click 'Upload"
Your tree will be imported to the family site and will be editable online.
To answer your questions:
1. If you do NOT want your members to be able to make changes on the online (GEDCOM) tree but to be able to post suggestions, please follow these steps:
- Enter to the section 'Settings' > 'Privacy'
- Go to the tab 'Members'
- Select 'No' for: 'Can site members edit the family tree'
- Select 'Yes' for: 'Can site members post content on the site'
2. Yes, the Smart Matches will be available.
If you would like to disable Smart Matches, please enter to the section: 'Family Tree > 'Smart Matches', enter to 'Smart Matches™ settings' and UNcheck the option: 'Enable Smart Matching™...'
3. Yes, you can delete it.
To delete tree from your family site:
- Enter to the section: 'Family Tree' > 'Manage Trees'
- Click 'Delete' next to the tree you want to delete.
- Click ok.
I would like to recommend you first to create the GEDCOM and import it to the family site, and then delete the old FTB tree from the Family Site.
Hope this is useful. Please let me know if you need my assistance.
If the tree is private they won't be able to see your tree. Just any individual which happens to be smartmatched at any given time. All other people around them will be marked "private". Personally, unless you really need the capabilites of FTB, (there are a few extra ones, but nothing I really need) I would update the tree online. Updating the tree through FTB and then publishing it online just brings up several issues and tends to irritate everybody. They are trying to work through some of the problems, but I think your particular issue is by design. I occasionally use FTB to find errors and conflicts, but I use the online tree to fix those.
Bottom line, it is my personal recommendation that you use the online version to update the tree. Take that as you will.
