Editing not possible after upload from FTB

Hi

- i started building a family tree with the online version - then downloaded the gedcom to the Family Tree Buider to do some changes that are not possible to do with the online version (like cousin marriages) and when I published it back to the website (either by publishing it or by exporting and then importing the gedcom file) it wont allow me to do a any editing of the tree anymore!

What did I do wrong? Please help me soon,

Thank you very much

Felix

I have the exact same issue and I can tell you that I am not at all happy about it... I pay for myheritage as I have many family members helping me make the tree and not being able to edit the tree after FTB is a pain in the arse.

Hi , I believe that the source of your problem, of why you are not able to edit your tree right now stems from the difference between these two concepts: Taking a tree from the Family Tree Building Software and publishing it online: When you take your family tree from the FTB and publish it to your family tree, you CANNOT edit the tree online. If you are looking to edit your family tree, then this is probably not your best option. Taking your FTB family tree and pressing Export GEDOM: You can then save the Gedcom on your computer and you will then be able to go into your family site and importing the gedcom that you saved. In order to import a GEDCOM on a family tree on the site, go into “MyFamily” under the top left and go into the second tab which is “Family Tree”. One of the options on the right will be “Import GEDCOM”. One important note: Photos will not be transferred with the gedcom file. Unfortunately, we do not have a way to import photos. They will have to be added again manually. This is probably a better option for you, as you will be able to edit the tree that has been imported to the family site. There is a big difference between the site and FTB because they each have different uses. FTB is downloadable software that can hold more information and can run faster because it runs on your computer itself. There are, however, tradeoffs to using it, such as, the inability to share your updates to the tree directly with other members. I hope that this helps. If you are still having difficulty editing your tree, please let me know. Best Regards, Esther / MyHeritage Team

I did what you suggested with the GEDCOM file, exported from FTB and imported using online tool, but the tree is still NOT EDITABLE on line.

Please fix this, I have put a lot of hours into this already, not to mention money, and I'd like it to work.

Thanks

My apolgies. I have just discovered that after uploading your GEDCOM file, you MUST associate yourself with a person on the tree for the tree to become editable again.

Hi, thank you for your reply - do I understand you correctly that after publishing the tree from FTB I will not be able to edit it anymore, however if I export the gedcom out of the FTB and import it to the online tool then I would be able to keep editing it?

I have also tried the second way of exporting and importing the gedcom  - the first time I did it i was able to edit the tree after but if I do it now, it is no longer possible.

The reason for using FTB and not only the online tool was to add special relationships that cannot be added with the online tool, such as a marriage between cousins - is it possible that the online tool is not able to display this relationship and it therefore does not work? Is is possible to somehow add marriages between cousins with the online tool?

thank you very much for your assistance,

 Felix
