Please remove your banner from our welcome page

I am trying to petition the staff at MyHeritage to do something about the large add they have recently placed on our welcome pages.

We have all spent a great deal of effort and some of us even money, in placing our families/histories on MyHeritage.com

As such, I feel we have a say in what should be the first thing our family members see when logging in to our sites.

I have recently submitted a ticket to the staff at MyHeritage.com requesting that they either remove or minimize the huge banner they have placed there. Unfortunately nothing has been done yet.

I have suggested the following solutions:

A: Remove the banner or place it at a lower location (and preferably not so large).

B: Have the banner minimized by default. ie: Visiting members can click the arrow to the right of 'New at MyHeritage.com' to see what is offered if they so choose.

The banner can still be placed on the login page for both solutions.

I understand the need for advertising, and as such agree with the odd add or banner on the site, but this new placement is simply unfair.

Please support me by writing to the staff at MyHeritage requesting them to take action. Alternatively you can post your support here.

I thank you in advance and wish you and your family a very exciting and prosperous 2012.

Kindest regards,

Kaz

I have finally received a final answer from MyHeritage.

Unfortunately their policy allows them to add whatever they deem necessary at whatever time they feel the need. As to the placement and position of these additions, we sadly have no say.

I for one, will be removing my family from this site and will ask for a refund.

If you notice, the banner has now been removed. As I mentioned in the personal email I wrote you, banners are temporary and it is ALWAYS possible to minimize them.

For your general knowledge I created a feature request asking to allow Premium and Premium Plus users an option to minimize the banner by default so that everytime you or your site members visit the site they will not see the banner if the site manager chooses not to show it.

I spoke with the VP about it personally and made sure the CEO heard your concerns as well. I'm not promising anything, but I want you to know that we hear you and are listening.

While we reserve the right to notify you about new features at MyHeritage (note this is different from advertising), we do listen to your voice. It is very important to us to hear your feedback and we work hard to try to incorporate your ideas as much as possible.

Of course, it's important also to mention that we are a business and need to do things that businesses do in order to continue to offer so many free services - such as the Mobile App.

If you find that MyHeritage doesn't suit your needs, it is your decision and we respect that. You should find the place that fits you best. Family history research should be enjoyable.

There will always be pros and cons about the service you use, no matter which service it is.

I personally believe that MyHeritage offers an excellent service comparably. For most of the Premium services we offer, there is a free version, and there are many free services other than these available on the site. We are constantly working to make MyHeritage a safe, friendly enviroment with the latest technologies available for your family and your family history research.

We do our best to balance your requests and needs with the need to prosper financially.

And we appreciate these types of dialogues. They are important to our growth.

I do find the size and movement of the banner annoying, but recognize the need for advertising.  Good idea to have the big banner on the free sites, and something lower, smaller and/or more subtle on the Premium and Premium Plus sites.

My Heritage is still a good value for the $.

I agree completely. Now all I am waiting for is a reply from MyHeritage - sadly, I am still waiting :)

I wanted to let you know that we added a setting to allow Site Managers to turn off the banner on your home page for all site members.

It's located in the Site Settings menu in the Home Page section.

Hi Kaz,

I agree with you. An another solution should be to show the banner only on free accounts.

Regards.

Eric
