Hi Daniel,

Family Tree Builder is MyHeritage's free family tree software. You can view gedcom files with this software and even add names, photos and information to the tree.

Here is the link to download: www.myheritage.com/family-tree-builder

I think you'll enjoy using the program. I'll be happy to hear what you think.

What is the file extension name of the file? is it .ged or .txt?

If the gedcom is in .txt format you will have to change the file extension name.

If this is the case and you need help changing the extension, just let me know and I can walk you through it.

If the file is indeed a .ged file, can you tell me which family tree software it was created in, how you try to open (double click on the file, use the import gedcom feature) and what, if any, error messages you receive when trying to open the file.

Hi Daniel,

Patience is not an issue here. It's my pleasure to help you!

This is what I found about FBC files: http://www.ancestry.com/share/awt/ftwftm.htm

Maybe you can ask the person that sent you the file to convert the FBC file to a gedcom and then send it back to you? Or maybe you already have Family Tree Maker and can follow the steps listed on the URL above to convert the FBC file to a regular gedcom?
