PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE can you make it so that Step-children can be added?? I love this package but the downside is an archaic approach to children born to unmarried parents who eventually go their separate ways & often marry other partners! At the moment once a couple are married you can't detach just one of them as the natural parent of a child which is ridiculous. I'm sure it wouldn't be too difficult for you to programme it so that we can select 2 people individually who aren't necessarily current spouses?
To be accurate you would of course need to define the status of a new married partner to a child too by way of adding further choices in the drop down menus so that when you hover over the child's card it shows that a partner is a Step parent, adopted parent or natural parent. It would be nice to be given the choice to decide for ourselves whether to show all this on the tree or not.
I've also noticed that regardless of whether or not 2 people married they are still considered spouses regardless of what status you choose! Please can something be done about this too?
We currently do not have the option to display step children the way you requested in Family Tree Builder, although thank you for the suggestion. I will be sure to forward it to the appropriate department for consideration.
We are also aware of the bug that you report with the Spouse appearing for certain relationship statuses. It was partially fixed in the new version of Family Tree Builder, available on our site in this link:
It actually is possible to hook a child to one parent. To do this, add an Unknown spouse to the parent, add the child and then delete the Unknown spouse. The child will be connected only to one parent.
You're right about the issue of adding step relationships. We do plan on adding it in the future, although our developers are very busy adding other things to the site as well.
I sent your request to the programmers of Family Tree Builder to raise the priority of this issue.
I assure you that we take your comments very seriously and appreciate the time you invest in telling us about them. Please let me know if there are other features that you feel are missing so that I can forward them on as well.

In 2008 that's four years ago, you said that you were going to do something about adding step children. Why is it that children show correctly in the published version but not on FTB? Isn't it about time you did something about this. I recently upgraded now, I regret doing so. Family history and genealogy is all about getting it right. You fail in this regard.
I'm very sorry to hear that you feel this way. We really do plan on adding this feature, we just haven't gotten to it yet. In the meantime, you can add it as a fact or a note for a person.
Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.
