Still struggling with strange matching
Morten Straus

Now using the web gui to sort smart matches as the FTB gui is unusable, I've managed to get these strange behaviors.

Image 1 (hits)The names are different, the years are different, still there seem to be a match, but when I open the compare trees function, I get image 2 (compared trees). Where it shows the same person. I can understand it being a match in the second case, but it's the same match, but in 2 different views.

Hi Morten,

Thank you for writing to us.

I went over all of the rejected Smart Matches in your site for the person in the screenshot, and looked at the tree comparisons for them, and I was unable to reproduce what you are describing on my computer. Do you still see this in your site?

Regards,

Aviv

Just checked this particular person and it's okay now. Haven't seen this fault in a while. This time the match was Hans and Nils. The tree comparison showd both Nils. Then after I'd rejected the person, it showd Nils and Jens in the comparison tree. I might have remembered the names incorrectly, but you'll get the idea.

It seems that when I use tree comparison it goes into another tree. The persons are completely different. Or missing dates are suddenly not missed anymore. Had I only known which was the correct view.

Hi Morten,

Ilana is away on vacation, but I will try to help you.

Can you see this problem now in your site, where the compare screen is different than the match screen?

If so, can you place the URL here?

Thanks

Found one again:  http://www.myheritage.no/FP/review-match.php?s=128288961&familyTreeID=1&individualID=1005093&targetSiteID=137575591&targetTreeID=5&targetIndividualID=5000050&comingFrom=treeMatches&listType=toConfirm&mode=compareTrees

 http://www.myheritage.no/FP/review-match.php?s=128288961&familyTreeID=1&individualID=1005093&targetSiteID=137575591&targetTreeID=5&targetIndividualID=5005173&comingFrom=treeMatches&listType=toConfirm

These are supposedly the same person, but the last name for the other's tree changes.

Hi Morten,

As you can see from the URL's you posted, the targed individual ID for the other tree is different in each link.

This means that each match is with a different person in the other tree.

so person "a" in your tree (tree A) has two matches with the other tree, tree B. once with person "b1" and once with person "b2".

Yes, I have have no idea why I can't open the links.

But yes, that's the problem. I select to be shown the match in a compare tree, and it seems to switch persons.

The links will work if you first go to the Smart Matches section in your site, then paste them into the browser's address bar.

I went to those two pages, and switched between the "oversikt" tab and the "Sammenligne traer" tab, but I don't see the person name change. Perhaps I am missing something?

I don't do the same you do. I'm using the "ventende bekreftelser" (waiting confirmation) to see who matches and who don't. And when I see someone I'm unsure about I click the "sammenligne traer" (compare trees) from the individual drop down list on the right. This takes me to the tree comparison, but it's here the name changes to match the smart match percent. So it seems SM is using the tree comparison name, but sometimes showing a different name in the waiting confirmations screen.

For some reason this web page did not approve of the word "select" in my post above so I changed it to click; strange thing.

when I go to see all the matches for Lars Olsen Hatlestad, in this page:

http://www.myheritage.no/FP/individual-matches.php?s=128288961&familyTreeID=1&individualID=1005093&mode=offline&reviewMode=pending

and go into compare trees for the match Lars Olsen Hatlestad, and Lars Olsen Smoras, in the website

Liv & Atle Solheim Web Site \ Liv Atle u5ief9_19238644b0j5e6dje7i9x0

I don't see the problem - the compare trees page is consistent. do you see the problem when you view the matches from this page?

No I don't see the problem.

But when I go here: See person 43, Kristi Olsdatter Smørås vs Kari Olsdatter Smørås

http://www.myheritage.no/FP/tree-matches.php?s=128288961&familyTreeID=1&targetFamilyTreeID=5&targetSiteID=137575591&reviewMode=pending

And here it's Kristi vs Kristi:

 http://www.myheritage.no/FP/review-match.php?s=128288961&familyTreeID=1&individualID=1001618&targetSiteID=137575591&targetTreeID=5&targetIndividualID=5001413&comingFrom=treeMatches&listType=toConfirm&mode=compareTrees

Looks like this problem is caused by some corruption in our smart matches pools. Sometimes individuals get a match with another person, and also with this person's sibling (as in the case you mentioned). The transitive nature of this link of matches can cause havoc in our system.

This requires a deep infrastructural change to the Smart Matches mechanism, which we will be able to make in the next version of this feature.

I am not sure when this will happen, but I will notify you when changes are made.

Thank you again for your patience,

Noam
