Just recently I keep coming across more Smart Matches where the other person has already dropped the maiden name of either the wife, mother or sister(s). It makes it difficult to truly confirm the match. Why not use " (born ------)" or a hyphenated married name. It also makes it impossible to further research the matriarchal lineage. Anyone shares this issue ?
The way names are displayed is left up to the Site Manager of the site. For example, some families find it important to show married names only, so that family site members will have an easier time looking up relatives.
However, the criteria for matching two names is also dependent upon the first and last names of the mother and father (if we don't have those names the match will get a much lower ranking). This, in effect, takes the maiden name of all women into consideration, regardless of the name format a particular person chooses to use.
You can see the criteria a match met (or didn't meet) by holding your mouse over the ranking percentage on the left side of each match.
