Would it be possible to have the choice of retaining the ID number in the database after a person has been deleted? A few times I have had to delete a person and lost the ID number. I might be one out here, but I also keep a handwritten list of all the ID numbers and people associated with them and it is a bit of a nuisance when I lose my sequence of numbers.I have found a way around it by applying the name "Dummy" to any records I have to delete, but this is not ideal.
Maybe when deleting a name, a popup box could appear giving the option of retaining or deleting the ID number. Surely your "Super whizz bang" techs could accomplish this?
Unfortunately, at this point in time the ID numbers in Family Tree Builder are internal to programming only and cannot be edited, or reused if the person is deleted.
We understand that this may be inconvenient for organizing your tree.
Thank you for the suggestion, I will make sure to pass it on to our development team for further consideration.
Further to the ID Numbers suggestion ( which I realize was posted a year ago)
I would like to be able to reasign ID numbers or reindex the database so that instead of having
person 1 married person 2 (no known children)
person 3 to 99 various relatives
Person 100 newly discovered child of 1 & 2.
I would like to be able to " auto Reindex" or even better Manually reindex so that the Newly discovered relative can be "Grouped" sequentially with direct relations.
In the new version of FTB, version 7, we do re-use ID numbers, and you will find that they are continuous and the number of ID numbers equal the number of people in the tree.
At the same time, you are correcy that there is still no option for users to re-shuffle id numbers, and to give certain ones to certain people in the tree, to make a mother and father and child all continuous ID numbers.
