When a smart match is confirmed does the info go in to my tree
Barbara Rickey
- Close
When I confirm a Smart Match is the info I am missing plugged in to my tree/person. Sometimes I have noticed I have more info and other times they have more. Do I need to copy and paste the bits I don't have in my tree or is it there right away? And how do I get the info back to my offline tree? Thanks

When you review a match it gives you the option to copy and edit details. If you do that you can take whatever info they have and add to yours. This only works for the particular match. You can't add people like that. You have to put them in manually. If you just confirm it without doing anything else, nothing will change, you will still have whatever you had before. To get in into FTB you can either add the info manually, or export to gedcom under the manage trees tab and then import it into FTB.

I don not see how I can easlily transfer the info even online. I am having to toggle between my offline tree and the online and then upload to get their information added to mine. Please enlighten.

Thanks

When you are reviewing a match, you have the person's info from the other tree on the left. You have the info from your tree on the right. It has the names, DOB, etc... Before those there is a blue tab which says "Copy and edit Details." When you click on that, it shows your information in little boxes with info you can change, delete, edit, etc...There are also little arrows to the right side of those in which you can hit which will immediately transfer their info about the person into your tree. It will also show people who are connected to that person, but you can't copy them. A lot of people want that feature(including me) but they don't have it. You do have to export the info from the online tree to the offline tree, or publish the offline tree to the online website. The two do not communicate with each other automatically.

I'm somewhat new to the site, but I've figured out most of the features.  It frustrates me when something doesn't work the way I think it should, especially when the rest of it is so user-friendly.  My question for you is this, WHY can't you copy relatives from a smart match?  I've been printing the smart matches, returning to the tree and manually adding relatives, then waiting for them to be smart matched.  Is there another way?  I don't want to export and merge gedcoms because I'll lose other data.  It seems a lot of people are asking for this.  Any idea if they're working on it or who to contact?

First of all my tree results are on the left, and I do not see any blue tabs. Maybe they need to be confirmed by the other person first?

You are missing part of what I have.  Don't know why that is. Shouldn't be because they haven't confirmed though. Maybe a bug, or maybe your subsciption level doesn't allow that. That's all I can think of, maybe a myheritage person will respond. BTW, you are correct about which side the results should be on, I mispoke, sorry about that.

Hi Barbara,

Thank you for writing to us.

The reason that you are not able to copy information from a Smart Match directly into your tree is becasue your family tree is a tree that was published from Family Tree Builder.

Since trees that are published from Family Tree Builder are not editable online, you cannot copy information from a match on the site.

You can use the Smart Match Merge Feature in Family Tree Buidler itself.

Best Regards,

Esther / MyHeritage Team
