I am not the person who originally set up the account, however, I was initially able to edit information & now it will not allow me to. As my family is quite extensive, it is not ideal for only one person to be able to edit information. I have sent a few messages regarding this & have not received a response! PLEASE HELP!!! If not, we are going to be doing twice as much work & not make near the progress we could! ANyone have any ideas???
It sounds like the owner changed the settings so that only he/she could make changes. Is it they who you contacted? I would think that if they know you they should at least respond to your contact. If it is a site by someone you don't know with a bunch of members that you and probably he doesn't know, then he probably changed it because someone else was messing with things in an undesirable way. If they don't respond or refuse to change the situation there isn't anything you or anybody else can do.
Eric, thanks for answering. I do know the Creator & she made me admin when I told her, but it still won't allow my to edit on the tree. It will let me add photos & tag them, but still no editing the tree. Any suggestions on how to change that setting?
What kind of account does the site creator have? Basic, premium or premium plus? It might be that the site has reached the limit for how many people can be included in the tree. Once that happens the site, in my experience, doesn't let people add or edit information.
The reason that you are not able to edit the tree is that you are a member of a family site where the tree was created in Famly Tree Builder and then published to the family site.
When one creates a family tree in Family Tree Builder and publishes it to a family site, neither the site manager or site members can edit the tree online. In order to make changes, only the site manager can edit the tree in Family Tree Builder and then re-publish the family tree to the family site. This will update the previously published tree (with the same name) on the site.
Thanks, a bunch. That clarifies thing, however, it does make it a bit more difficult since we are now doing twice the work. C'est la vie. have a good day.
I don't know why it wasn't explained, but any person, who have been given the administrator rights, can download the Family tree builder, then download the most updated tree file from the site, modify / update it and re-upload to the site. Look for Family Tree >> Manage Trees >> Download to Family Tree Builder
When you give someone administration rights, you are giving them the rights to change configurations on the site, to download the tree, basically anything that you can do on the family site, they will be able to do.
If you don't want someone to be able to download a copy of the family tree, it's best to simply invite them as a regular member rather than giving them administration rights (making them a Site Manager).
another alternative is to do up your family tree in FTB, publish to your site - export to gedcom and import that gedcom - that way i believe that all members can edit the tree
