My members can not add information to my website

Hello Everyone,

I have checked all the settings to let my members add to my site but they told me there is no way they can add anything.  Now is there a reason why they can not add to my site do I need to do anything else?

 Thanks,

 Kathy Moran/Morian Wedyke

Hello Kathy,

I see that you are managing 4 different family sites. Is this problem happening in all your family sites or in just one and if so, on which family site is this happening?

Can you elaborate as to what the site members are trying to do and what is happening on the site? Are they trying to make changes in the tree, add photos or anything else? Are they getting an error message and if so what is it?

Is this sort of thing happen to all your site members or to only a few ones?

I need to get more information before coming to decision as to the nature of the problem.

One thing that I did notice is that in 3 of  your 4 sites you have a family tree that was created in the Family Tree Builder software. It is improtant to note that such trees cannot be edited online and maybe this is what the site members are trying to do.

The following article explains why Family Tree Builder trees cannot be edited online:

Hi Nir,

Thanks so much for your help!!!

Yes, I do use Family Tree Builder software, so there is no way to have anyone update the Family Tree but me because I use the Software?

I noticed that in the Settings under Privacy,  then under Member,  there is no way I can put a check mark next to "Family Tree"  All Pages, then Post Content,  it is greyed out.  Is there a way to be able to check that?

I also saw the following on this same page.

Tip!  Successful sites encourage members to participate and post content.

You (or other Site managers) can always edit or delete all content posted by anyone on your site.

Now is there a way if I make a person a site manager for awhile would there be a way to do that?

I hope this helps.  I was just hoping my family could go in an add things to the tree if possible?

Thanks again,

Kathy Wedyke

Hi Kathy,

At the moment, family trees which were created using the Family Tree Builder software can only be modified by the person who started the tree and only from within the software.

The reason for this limitation is technical and we are working on a solution that will allow multi-user editing of such trees, but it will take some time before this capability is available.

Note that your other site members can still add content to the site (add events, photos, news articles, etc..), but they cannot make changes to the family tree.

The reason you cannot select the "post content" checkbox next to "Family tree" is the one specific above. Family Tree Builder trees cannot be modified online at the moment. This means that even if you promote some of your site members to become Webmasters, they would still not be able to modify the tree. Like I said, modification of the tree is only possible from within the Family Tree Builder software.

As soon as multi-user editing of Family Tree Builder trees will be available, we will be sure to notify all of our users.

I hope this answers your question.

Hi,

I came across this post and was wondering if there are any updates on this. Is it possible to edit online a tree that was created by FTB?

Thank you

André

Hi Andre,

Thank you for writing to us.

No, it is still not possible to edit Family Tree Builder trees online, however we do offer the option to convert these trees into Web trees that can be edited online (this means that the tree will no longer be edited in the program, only in the site). If you would like us to do so for you, please write to us or answer this post.

With the new version of the software that allows synchronization, is it possible to allow other site managers to now update the tree?  I still do not see any settings to allow it.

Dear Alexander Olson,

Thank you for your reply.

You now have the option of site members and site managers for WEB trees and FTB trees. You can edit these settings online under the tab Family Tree > Manage Trees > Edit tree settings.

Please note, that the new change now enables you to let even several site managers edit FTB trees (family trees created with Family Tree Builder FTB 7.0 ), which is a big improvement. Up to now this was only able for WEB trees (trees created online).

In your case I can see you are still working with FTB 6.

I would recommend to install the newest version FTB 7 using this download link:

Please let me know if you have further questions.

Best regards,

Laura
