I have two family trees and they are in two different languages. How do I change this to one language?

Hi Elin, I assume you are referring to the tree you created using the Family Tree Builder software. In order to change the tree language, open the software and then open the 'tools' menu. From the menu, chose the 'languages' entry. Then, select a different language under the 'Primary Data Language' section and click 'OK' on both dialogs Regards, Yehuda

Okay, I found it now but that was not the problem. The language settings are correct in the software.

Hi Elin,

In the Language menu, you can click on "Advanced language options"

and get to a new menu, where you will be able to define the main data language of your project,

and the secondary data language.

Once you have done this, you will be able to use the Tools > Translation wizard menu,

to easily translate you whole tree from one language to the other.

If there is something else you would like to do, please give me some more details and I will be happy to assist you.

Hi elin,

Make sure you are looking at the Family Tree Builder software, not the web site. The 'Tools' menu is the second menu from the right.

Yehuda

I have the same problem. Our site was started by a cousin in Germany, and thought I have the button on the bottom right hand corner of the site set to English, many items are still in German. Most annoying to me is that when I generate family trees or family books, they are in German (which is useless to me- I can't read German!!)

If you find out how to change the language, I'd love to know.

Hi Nicole, There is currently a limitation in the family book and chart generation process, which allows setting just one language for both the content and the 'story' that surrounds it. Since the tree was started in German, we used this language for the story as well.

Dear Yehuda,

I was surprised founding your great software with Lithuanian menu.

I was sure software recognizes regional settings of the user computer and switch language automatically.

We've developed a family tree crossing 250 members limit in the both sides of the globe.

Recently my US cousin that received invitation asked about  English version I understood was wrong.

I've stared to look deeper for the solution until found his forum.

Then I noticed language switch in the right bottom of the page.

I've looked into my tree page and found the same language switch after long scrolling down.

I would recommend

to move switch to top right corner that is almost standard for the websites,

implement recognition by the regional settings,

and possibility  to write invitation manually, chose invitation language of standard or at least include English text also.

It's strange, but software doesn't remember the last language used and opens in Lithuanian after change to English.

Hi, Yehuda,

As I understood, the current version of WEB application allows to display names and all  other personal data in one language (although recorded in two languages in FTB). When do  you prepare version with possibility of switching primary and secondary languages?

Hi Georgi,

Thank you for writign to us.

If your tree has data in more than one language in Family Tree Builder (at least 85% filled in each language), then you will be able to see the data in each of those languages on your family site. All that you will have to do is to change the site language to that data entry language.

Hi Ester,

Thanks a lot for your answer.

One more question: what exactly means  "least 85% filled"? Does it mean just names ( e.g. least 85% persons has filled the name in both languages) or it's necessary to fill all personal data (e.g. place of birth and so on).  And if there is filled less than 85% data, it's able to see data just in one language?

 Best Regards

Georgi

Hi Georgi,

Thank you for writing to us.

Sorry for not being more clear.

I was referring to names in the tree.
