Hi, in the general settings page there's the option to give your site a unique address - when I enter my choice and press 'check availability' I see this message
Please choose an address other than 'smith.heaney'.
A valid address must consist only of the letters a to z and a small set of punctuation marks
I don't understand how my choice doesn't meet the requirements - can anyone explain please?
The address is aimed to give you a shorter and an easy-to-remember way to access your family site.
For example, instead of accessing your site at: http://www.myheritage.com/site-68956831/smith-heaney
you can simply access it at: http://smith-heaney-descendants.myheritage.com
The address is the part that appears before the myheritage.com domain. In your case it is smith-heaney-descendants (it is also called the subdomain).
The complaint message you saw was triggered because you were trying to pick an address which contained a period. Once you decided to use the dash instead, the new address got accepted.
What I'm thinking is that you would need to put something like "smith@myheritage.com/heaney" or something like that, but they don't host addresses like that. They only allow their punctuation in the .com section which is already there. Obviously you could just use "smithheaney" with no punctuation.
