Re:'282917' family tree - I recieved an email saying that there are 50 Smart Matches in my tree - when I follow the link it tells me -0- individual matches and -0- Tree matches...???
I don't know what else to do but follow the link in the email - Please advise.
I checked your account details and there was a glitch in sending your Smart Matches email. The matches will be available on your family site in a few days.
Jael - thank you so much for fixing the glitch - I'm thrilled with the matches, and anxious to make contact with "potential" relatives. - But I would like to "clean up my site" before doing that. --
Somehow I have Anderson Family Tree AND 282917, and they are both the same - how can I consolidate them?
I cannot figure out why some of the entries say "private" - I didn't request that knowlingly - can you tell me how to undo that ?
And lastly, tho I've read as much as I can about it, I still cannot figure out the Family Tree Builder vs on-line additions. - It seems like a redundancy to me - Is there any reason not to just work on-line instead of "publishing" and going back and forth??
Thank you, Robin Waters

Can you send me a link to the family site where the 282917 tree appears? I wasn't able to find it in your account details.
If you see "private" in your own tree, it means you are not logged in as the site manager of your site.
Unless... are you referring to seeing private when you compare matches? If this is the case it means that on the other person's tree you don't have matches with the surrounding people. For example, when you look at a match, you will always see a few surrounding people in the other person's tree - correct? This is to give you a better idea if the match is real.
However, if the other tree has living people in the surrounding but your tree doesn't have matches with those people then we do not show you the full names in order to protect privacy. Hope this is clear.
There are different advantages to Family Tree Builder vs. online trees.
Family Tree Builder has more advanced functionality.
Also, FTB trees cannot be edited online. Many people prefer to post a "read only" version of their tree on their family site to protect the information.
The big advantage of online trees is that you do all the work online. It doesn't matter if you are on vacation or at work, you can always work on your tree. And collaboration with family members is possible as they can also log in and work on the tree whenever they wish.
Can you tell me how to merge these two so that I have just the one site? - My preference is to have just the one online - there is no reason for privacy/protection, it's fine for anyone to see everything.
Thanks for the link. I was able to find the site and tree you are referring to.
I recommend deleting one of the sites and accounts (you have two logins - must have signed up in the past with a different email address). We don't have a way to combine accounts or sites, so the best thing will be to choose one account to keep and delete the other.
Let me know if that is okay with you and which account to delete. I will take care of it for you.
If you deleted your family tree from Family Tree Builder, that's great. It will help to avoid confusion.
However, your two accounts still exist. They can only be deleted by someone on the support team.
The Anderson Family Tree Web Site has your published tree from Family Tree Builder on it. Family Tree Builder trees cannot be edited online so working online with this tree won't be an option for you.
Your second account has a tree which is editable online and the tree there looks exactly the same as the tree on your Anderson site.
I think you should use the second account and delete the first account. If that is okay with you I will take care of it for you and make sure your login remains the same.
I'm still confused but I see the 2 sites as you mentioned. - the xxx1722 still shows "privates" as I'm not a member??? - Is it possible for you to delete that one, so I just have one site??
The xxx8931 seems the most complete. If that one is the one you mentioned that is editable. - Here are the links.
One last question, will the Smart Matches link to my one remaining site?
We're almost there - thanks for all you effort...R
PS:When I become a "Premium Member" is there some way for you to get the sale credit??? - Or an address for your manager so that I could say a kind word about you?? - I so appreciate all you've done. -
http://www.myheritage.com/site-family-tree-28291722/anderson this tree IS editable online. This is the tree you see as "private" because the email address is old (looks like a work email...) and you haven't logged in with that email so we can't recognize you as the Site Manager of that site.
What I suggest we do is the following:
I will delete the site you see as "private" (this will not affect your Smart Matches on the account we're going to keep).
You will convert your family tree to a tree that can be edited online for the site we're keeping.
This can easily be done by visiting the site, clicking on Family Tree > Manage Trees > Export to GEDCOM.
You'll get a mail with a link to download the GEDCOM file. Click on the link and save the file to your computer.
Now go back to your family site and click on Family Tree > Import tree (GEDCOM). Browse to find the GEDCOM file you just saved and select it to upload.
Now you will have two family trees on your site. The next step is to delete the tree that is not editable online.
Go to the Family Tree > Manage Trees page again and click on Delete for the tree that has a Source of FTB. The other tree will have a Source of GED.
Hello again Jael; - That plan of yours looks good - I finally got up the "Chutzpah" to go thru all this - I printed out your directions and started in, only to find that in the management area of the site 116778931/anderson-family-tree (which the plan is to keep) the only GEDCOM available on the dropdown menu was 282917 for exporting. - I'm now lost AGAIN. :(
I guess the best thing will be for you to delete it from your end before I go thru the procedure you suggested.
You have my permission, please delete 28291722/anderson and I will move forward with the plan.
I think we've done it!!!! - 'Did all you suggested and everything looks fine!! :)
I have one more question: how do I delete/eliminate Smart Matches that are not wanted? ie: John CN Anderson (my father) shows now a deleted smart match (that we deleted). - it shows 2 for Voss - who is a distant relative and one a Leslie John Andrews, who has no relationship to us, but I can't see a way to delete that match...any suggestions?
There are many others, but if you can help me (again) with this one, I can clean up the rest.
I'm looking forwad to sharing the "cleaned up site" with several relatives that I've contacted thru my searches. -- Thank you so much!!
It's my pleasure to help you. I'm glad to hear you were able to make the changes you wanted to make.
Currently there is no function to allow you to delete Smart Matches. We are working on some major improvements to the Smart Matching feature though, and an "accept/reject" function will be added which will allow you to reject matches of your choosing.
We're working on these improvements now but they're still several month away. I hope you'll stick with us until then.
Jael - after all our work - My Heritage - and you, are stuck with me! - And when funds and time are right I hope to upgrade to premium.
That is a glitch not being able to accept/reject non pertinent smart matches, but not enough to drive me away. - 'So glad your company is addressing it.
Yours is a wonderful service and I've been in contact with relatives around the globe because of your terrific service. -- I'm hoping that when I send out links to my local relatives they will become members too.
Again many thanks, you are a fabulous representative for your company.
