Let me say great site! But how about iPad support?
I'm planning on going overseas to visit my relatives and to update my info. I'd rather not bring my laptop if I could look at and update the site using my iPad.
An iPad app would be great. Or if the Flash tree could be replaced by an HTML5 version, that would also be great! Otherwise MyHeritage is a great service!
Can you please be a bit more specific in your answer. Are you planning on better support for iPad/iPhone? Through the release of a standalone app or better support via browser functionality? It is not difficult to get a website to display custom content bases on the browser type.
I'm considering my options of renewing my premium or premium plus account and this is one thing that will make a big difference. As I would purchase a 5 year subscription this is at least $185 you are missing out on.
I was wondering if you could make some small changes to the "myHeritage.com" web site to better support the iPad users.
You can use most of the myheritage.com for the iPad through any browser except for the "Family Tree" tab. This tab automattically opens to the "Tree" page which has the Adobe Flash plugin. The page then changes to a large "pluggin not installed" without access to the sub-tabs or even the main tabs.
If the "Family Tree" tab automatically opened to the "People" page then it wouldn't stop/crash and I could then use a lot more functionality of the site with my iPad.
I think this would be a good move generally for all users as the default tree page always takes a while to load, even when you are not wanting this page. I would imagine also that it would be less load on your servers.
We're working on rewriting the online tree in HTML5 so the Flash issue with iPads won't be an issue in the future. (It's a big project and we're only in the beginning stages, so keep in mind that you won't be seeing the change soon.)
I did, however, record your suggestion for the developers. Maybe they can implement something now that will make it easier for iPad users.
Ipad is the best way to use myheritage, just think how easy if you can bring your family tree with you and show your family directly. It would make s very big diffrence.
My first idea, when i bought my ipad was, yee i what myheritage on it :)
Here at MyHeritage, we are working on some very neat stuff in our mobile department for the upcoming year.
Our first version of the FamilyConnect iphone App, that we have already uncovered, is our very first version. With coming releases we will be improving many aspects of the product.
Regarding other new products, we naturally cannot uncover anything specific before it is properly announced. All that we can say for now is to stay tuned...
I am keeping my fingers crossed for the issue of functional tools for the iPad. That would be an excellent tool for meeting with the nestor of the family on the couch with coffee in hand, and questions about family histories. Tree plus pictures - to the required minimum. Probably many people will be happy to have paid a few euros in the appstore for such a possibility.
Please let me know how you go work! familly connect to the iPhone is on average poor!
We share your passion on how great MyHeritage will be when used on mobile devices - perfect for working on your tree on the go, viewing your data & showing off your gorgeous family photos.
Issues such as working on your tree on mobile devices which don't support flash are being taken care of, but they do take time. When these upgrades & changes will be ready, I'm more than sure they will be worth the wait.
Meanwhile, a real sweet upgrade to our mobile app, FamilyConnect, is headed your way. Stay tuned.
Thank you so much for your feedback, it really means a lot to us.
Showing your tree on tablets which support flash should be fine if you log on your family site on MyHeritage.com. At the moment, there's no specific mobile app for viewing & editing your tree.
Viewing your tree on devices which don't support flash is something we're working on & should be solved soon, so there will be no problem to view & edit your family tree on any kind of tablet.
It might not be soon enough for your exhibition, though.. but good luck! 3,100 names on your tree is definitely something that's worth showing around.
Glad to hear you're enjoying our software. We have some great Improvements ahead - stay tuned (:
and here is the next user, waiting for the iPad App.
I've testet other App's for Family Trees, but the Import / Export from Heritage (PC) to the App never works perfekt.
In every App you have fault datafields, or no pictures, or html tags in data fields, or ...
Export / Import from my Heritage site to an App don't work for this time.
Thanks for your feedback. Our tree isn't available on iPad due to the device's limitations, but making MyHeritage.com availble on all mobile devices, including iPad, is definitely in our plans... Stay tuned.
So, I just saw this thread and I have to add myself to it.
I noticed that the first request was done in 2006, and the last update from FT is from 2010.
We're in July 2011 now. I'd like to know whether FT is indeed planning a release for iPad or not. You guys have shown a very truthful customer service in the past, I would expect no less now asking for such an important feature. Are you indeed working on a mobile version to be used in the iPad, yes or no?
I can't believe that such an app would take 5 years of development!
Hi Anibal, Thanks so much for your feedback. iPad app wasn't on the roadmap on 2006, it is now. We are currently working on making our tree non-flash, so it will be available on iPad (as well as other tablets) soon. A mobile MyHeritage app is next on our list. We are aware of the long time this is taking, but our team was super busy working on other great features such as the SmartMatches, and we are just now getting to the mobile part of our roadmap. Better late than never.. (: Mobile support is only one part of the great things expected this year, hope they'll be worth the wait. Again, thanks for the feedback, we really appreciate it. Have a great day, Danielle - MyHeritage.com team
I am also a big supporter of having MyHeritage on I pad. More you delay more difficult it will be for you as we may have newer versions of Ipads or other tablets in market. SO why not you introduce your application soon.
We are working on quite an interesting mobile roadmap, but it's a long way and at the same time we are working on improving & adding features to the site. When we'll have news on the mobile scene, we'll keep you posted. I'm sure it will be worth the wait..

Where is the news about your plans for the mobile scene that you promised to post??????
Could you at least reveal some hints on how far you are in the process ??
Ipad are great.... Still not supported for the family tree flash... But on Android Tabelt, the browser is supported. FYI, still waiting for the IPAD support or a full application for the ipad and tablet where wifi is not available.
The app is out and its interface is wonderful! Unfortunately, though, you cannot edit anything. It's just for viewing! Also you lack the functionality is the website itself as you cannot create or even view events much less see or comment on anything. It's quite surprising that they actually added the celebrity lookalike thing and left out such important features for interactivity with the tree itself. The tree is dead.
I would think that improving the website tree for html5 would be more interesting and productive at the moment. Im certain there are other mobile and iPad users who are suffering with the lack of interaction with the tree!
Everything you say is true, and all this functionality is being developed.
I am pretty certain you will not have to wait a long time for our next update with at least some of the features you and so many other users are waiting for.
