Currently in FTB, when a divorced man marries a divorced woman that has a child, that child show up as the natural child of the new married couple (it may work the other way also, but my tree doesn't have that situation). This is not correct. There needs to be a way for the affected child's card to indicate that only one of the new couple is their natural parent. By the same token, if that child is adopted by the new spouse, there needs to be a way to show that also.
I believe Step-Children need to be address in future versions as well as more attention to Adopted Children. For example if a child has been adopted but by only one parent, a'la a new marriage, etc. It would be nice to create a single tree without the need of any additonals.
I totally agree. Unfortunately, this is a growing need! I have looked and looked at all the settings, and it just doesn't seem to be possible, however, when comparing some of my smart matches, I note that other family trees have a way to show that and even some of the screens in the updated manual show step children. But how???
You can add adopted children by clicking on the adopting father and mother pair. Click on Edit for one of the parents and then Children > Attach Existing Child. Find the adopted child in the list of family tree individuals which shows up. Choose option three "Existing parents are biological, New parents are adopting"
We are currently working on a method to add individuals that are not related to the actual family tree.
For now, you do have the option of making another family tree that shows the biological side's tree with the child that was adopted on your original tree.
