i'm wondering about using information from others sites (smart matches) & research.  is this permissable?  are there rules & regs about this?  i don't mind sharing my information but certainly wouldn't want others to think i 'stole' their infomation.

just wanted to ask here before proceeding.

thanks :)

I have struggled with this problem also and have resolved it for myself as follows.  I am delighted to share whatever information I have with fellow myHeritage users and therefore have made my family tree accessible to all other users.  If they want more, all they have to do is ask or request to become a member of my site and have full access.  If one does not want to share any information at all, one should make one's site completely private.  I have gratefully used and down-loaded information from other sites, but I always try to let the owner know with a thank-you note whenever possible. When there is a smart match with a completely private site, I try to contact the owner, who sometimes responds but often not.   I hope this helps.

Hi Karen,

Thank you for writing.

There aren't "rules" about the behaviour of  "SmartMatch-pales".

It is polite to discus this with the site manager that you take information from- mostly about privacy conditions (Some sites are more private than others).

If you are a member of a site, you can take the information from this site- and this is the idea of SmartMatches- to expend the research. But it is for the best to ask the manager if it's ok with him.

Good Luck!
