1. i have some words that i translated in FTB, my father also tried to translate but had a spelling mistake in the original language and thus translated some words incorrectly, the mistake apears in a lot of family members, i want to know how can i view all of the word FTB "knows" how to translate and maybe erase some words that are duplicated because there is a mistake in the spelling.
2. in the family tree web site, in the setting section under privacy -> members i cheked the "Can site members edit the family tree" option, how do i use this option? how do i give members the option to update their own family in the family tree?
Firstly, unfortunately, you cannot find all the instances that that word has been translated and correct them. What you will have to do is to manually edit this error wherever it is.
Secondly, Regarding your members that wish to edit your tree: since your tree was published from Family Tree Builder, it is not editable online by you or any of your users.
thanks for the answer, in one of the links it says that editing FTB trees online will be available in the next version of FTB, is that correct? and if that so, can you please share with us when will this version be out?
i hate being a nag but i have to know everything before i try to make my family tree an online family tree via GED file.
on the one of the links you sent me it says that if i export a GOD file it doesn't save the photoes, i'm guessing it referes to the family tree picture of the persons' face (right?) is that the only problem with this procedure, i mean this procedure won't mess up my album picture face recognition tags and other stuff right?
with almost 700 people in the tree i have to make sure :)
congratz 'bout the new FTB version - it looks and feels greate!
i've asked earlyer on this thread how can i get members of the family tree web site to have the option of editing the family tree online.
the answer i've got is that because the family tree started from the FTB program i can't, unless i import the family tree from a GED file directly to the web site.
further more, it has been said that your working on a solution and will b out with the next version of the FTB.
with the new vesrion and all, was this problem fixed? or will i finally break and take a chance importing a GED file to the site? (i'm a bit affraid of the second option...)
if the answer is the second option (importing GED etc.) it would be greate if you could give me a small walkthrough.
I am glad that you are enjoying using Family Tree Builder version 5.0.
I am sorry but there is not yet a fully synchronized version of Family Tree Builder.
If you would like to have a family tree you can edit online, do the following:
Open your family tree in Family Tree Builder.
Go to File > Export GEDCOM.
Now go to your family site.
Click on Family Tree > Import GEDCOM.
Browse your computer to find the GEDCOM you just created.
Click upload and that’s it!
Now you have a family tree that you can work on online. Please note that this will be a separate tree from the first one. You can still publish that tree to your site and it will update the FTB tree that you have on your site. The tree that you imported will be editable on your site by you and your members.
To see all the trees that you have on your family site, just go to your site, and to Family Tree > Manage Trees. There you will see a list of all the tree that you have on your family site by their name, size, and type of tree. You can delete any tree by clicking on 'delete' next to a tree.
You can click on any tree, and you will be taken to that tree on your site. You will also have the option to switch between the trees, when you are actually viewing one of your trees. You will see a dropdown list on the top left, allowing you to switch between your trees.
If your tree is editable online, your site members of the family site have full editing privileges for that particular site.
To restrict your members so that they cannot edit the family tree, please go to Settings > Privacy > and under the Members tab, you will see the option to do so. Save your settings.
Please note that this is still only for a tree that is editable online, as trees that are published from Family Tree Builder are not editable by you or your site members on your site.
i've done what you suggested, exported my family tree to GedCom file and imported it from the site directly.
then, i opened the FTB and imported the tree, started translating and correcting stuff.
then i saved it and published it to the site, than i've noticed that i can no longer edit the tree online...
i was under the impression that i can edit the tree online and from the FTB but i have to start the tree from online to accomplish this.
do i really have to choose? edit the tree online by members of the site, and limit the tree to only one language or edit the tree from FTB have it translated but no one else can edit it?
i am really frustrated about this, it seems to me as if these things that i'm missing here are very basic (plus micro-managing privilliges and permissions but i've opened a separate thread for this subject).
Thank you for the Holiday wishes. I apologize for the delay in my response.
Anytime that a tree is published to the family site from Family Tree Builder, it will not be editable on the site by you or by your site members, no matter where it was originally created.
Unfortunately, at this point in time, you do have to choose between the following:
-having a tree in Family Tree Builder with more than one language that when you publish to your site will not be editable by you or your family site members.
-creating a tree on your family site in one language that is editable by you and your site members (you can create a few trees on your site one in each language).
We are sorry that this is the choice that you are faced with. We are working on a fully synchronized version of Family Tree Builder with the family site, for the future.
