I experience a serious error about first names disappearing. I am new to this system so I cannot say if it just happened; for me it was so from the start. The error is massive and consistent. About a third of the persons (especially the younger generations) loose their first name after the tree has been published. The persons are then called "unknown Skevik" in my tree. The birth data and gender stay correct. Surely this cannot happen to all million users. Support@myheritage.com does not answer my mails on this.
I use a HP machine with intel core i7, win 7 home premium 64 bit and Firefox. I have checked wit IE that the error is ther, too.
Can anybody help me on this, or I must abandon my project with MyHeritage.
The names seem partly to disappear in the FTB as well, and I have reentered the names so many times that this is no fun anymore.
Can you both please check what languages you have set for your tree in Family Tree Builder?
Please go to the Tools menu > Languages.
Note that there are three options here, the Display language, Primary Language and Secondary Language. You will need to have the appropriate languages selected.
If you originally entered your data in one language, and no longer have that language selected as one of your data entry languages, then you will not see that information that you entered in that original language.
If you would like your information to be in a different language than what you originally entered it in, then select the original language as your primary data language, and the new one as the secondary one. Then go to Tools menu -> Translation Wizard to translate the names to the Secondary Language. Why must you do this? The original entry of data for the Primary Language must be “translated” or converted into the Secondary Language. The Translation Wizard is a fast and effective way to do so.
The languages are set to Norwegian, same and English
For the reason of two languages, there are two columns in the person sheet. It seem so unnecessary that I must type every name twice, or use Copy-Paste, since the takeover arrows are greyed out (mostly). Normally, there is no name translation between plain european languages.
The main thing is that I actually do fill in both columns before publishing.
Originally, my wife started the page in Norwegian and German, but I copied the data and changed the languages and the family name to Skevik. Now I cannot get rid of the original name Vold as a selection alternative to look at, and I suspect the Skevik file is dual since twice the name count is reported. Since the takeover, I have kept the languages N-s-E in all the work. (In experimenting on different computers (because of the disappearance), it happened that the persons were one-column only.) I have noticed that missing names often are on one of the columns only, but it varies from person to person which column is suddenly missing. I am so confused.
What also happened was that the online system logs me in as Beate, whatever I do. Even if I log in as Kjell, sometime later the system re-logs me in as Beate.
Before putting a lot of work into changing names again (please understand that I tried this a lot and want to be fairly sure that it will work before I do it again).
So before I start working on this, please help me to sort out the other issues:
*Login as Kjell permanently (and acceptance that I may change the data).
*Remove the Vold part permanently
*Check for and mend eventual dual Skevik data
Then I would have a straight system to try renaming my relatives in.
