Ideas for the new Family Tree Builder (FTB) What is possible to integrate into the new Version of FTB??? What is the relase date? 1) Synchronice FTB to Website and Website to FTB for datas, fotos, documents, storys, links, … 2)Fusion of two (same) person/trees with different datas. 3) When I edit or add on the online tree there is a message after on the startpage who says what I’ve updated (person), but when I change or add person whith FTB on the startpage there is only the message: there is a new version of the tree online. 4) When I have to enter the same fact for more than one person, can I make “copie & paste” of the fact. 5) Adding links to person and sources. 6) Will it be possible in the future to make the datas “Privat (do not publish to site)” for cause of death, contact or for all others entries, so that I can choose what I will make private or not. 7) Is smart research and MyHeritage.com Research the same? When can I use the MyHeritage.com Research with the firefox browser. 8) Unmarried Parents I like the idea of “FishMan”: Plus (for unmarried couples); NEW!!! Unmarried (heart) solid line (replaces partners) Ex-Partners (broken heart) dashed line Other (friends symbol) dashed line (this covers affairs, etc) http://www.myheritage.com/support-post-123782/unmarried-parents?lang=DE#posting135211 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I like FTB and the myheritage site Best regards Richard MOTSCHAN
This may be a newb question, but I didn't see the feature. Is it possible to print a timeline report based on calendar day rather than year? I'd like to compile several events that happened on a given day. There could be a filter to select types of events, too. For instance if you wanted to make a "Birthday" calendar for births or "rememberance" calendar to organize deaths.
When I click the marriage Edit function I can tab to children. I would like to select the child, hit enter, and it take me to that record rather than just sit there.
Family Tree Maker allows one to 'grab' a person on the display and drag them to new parents.
You have no way to combine duplicate entries. Simply a list is very poor. Maybe a Fix It is needed.
I recommend your program to all of my family and friends. Keep up the good work, even though it is still VERY rough around the edges.
Finally, I clicked on Upgrade and instead of going through screens to say I wanted to do it, what level, or if at all, it IMMEDIATELY, WITHOUT MY PERMISSION, CHARGED MY CREDIT CARD AND DID THE UPGRADE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is unacceptable and a very shoddy practice.
Smart research and MyHeritage.com Research are different types of research that can be done on your tree. Smart research is for your structured tree, based on families, and can search many people in your tree at a time. The online search tool is per person, and unfortunately, it is currently only available for use in Internet Explorer at this time. We do hope to include other browsers in the future.
Thank you for your suggestions regarding relationship symbols.
I like Richard's idea of being able to merge two people in the tree into one. I've had a few people now which I've had to manually copy/paste information from one to the other, then delete the duplicate person. Being able to do this automatically would make that much nicer.
On a similar note it would be nice if there was some way FTB could automatically search through existing people in my tree when I'm adding someone new and alert me if there might be a match. We have SmartMatches for online comparison, so I don't think this should be too difficult to impliment. Right now I am manually comparing pretty much every person to existing people before I add them in order to avoid duplications.
I'd also like to have Autocomplete switched off for people's names but left on for locations and other things. Right now when I'm adding a new person I have to remember to check that Autocomplete hasn't filled in a middle name when all the information I have is a middle initial.
Another suggestion I have is for citations. When I add the first citation it starts in the Source field, but when I add a second or further citation it opens the window with the Page as the starting focus. I'd much prefer to have FTP always start with the source as the focus so my process is the same.
Another suggestion is for the date field in the citation window. I'd like to have it so if I just click on the date field it fills in today's date. Then, of course, if I want to use some other date or change the date format I'm using I can click the button to the right of the date field and set it there. Even simpler yet would be for the date to simply be filled in when the citation window is opened.
I'm also getting older and my eyesight isn't as good as it used to be. I'd like to be able to increase the font size in FTB without having to change my screen resolution or adjust my system's defaults.
The new version of FTB with the dup check function is working well. Please pass on my thanks to the developers.
Having been encouraged by this progress, I have some other suggestions.
First, I'd like to see a separate searchable forum or something just for FTB suggestions and bugs. I expect the development team keeps a list of such already so I would think it really would be only a matter moving that online. What this would do is make it so people could see what has already been suggested, perhaps what is currently under development as well, so they wouldn't have to duplicate effort by asking for it as well. It would also mean a reduction in effort for those who manage such requests. It would be nice if the list had a place where people could append a comment that they'd like to see that suggestion implemented too. Possibly also add a comment on how to tweak the suggestion.. sort of a suggestion regarding the suggestion.
I would also like to have the main FTB window view settings remembered. Specifically I'm talking about the size of the left window, the name list. It has a default width that is enought o show the first names and shorter last names. Each time I restart FTB I adjust the size so it includes the birth date. I'd like that change to be remembered so I don't have to do this each time.
One other change in the name list. Right now when I start typing a name it automatically goes to the beginning of the match and automatically fills in the name with that first match. As I continue to type it jumps to the next match. I only have to type enough to get to the right name. Again, please pass on to the developers my thanks for this. I am very impressed with this feature, and it makes my searches very much less work. The change I'd like to see though is that in the case where FTB has found the names I'm looking for, it usually scrolls the list so the first match is in the middle of the pane. I'd like it to scroll so the first match is the second entry in the pane. This means I would see more of the list of people with the name match and I wouln't have to manually scroll down so often. For situations where the number of matches is smaller it will often mean all of the people with the same name will automatically show, a great time-saver for me as I do this frequently.
I'd like to be able to edit my locations list. It is a very nice feature for it to automatically fill in the location when I start typing and for it to automatically learn this from locations I have previously typed in (good job people) but it also automatically memorizes information when it is comes in from Smart Matches, so I end up with abbreviations and other spellings for places in the memorized list - as well as the locations formatted as I want them. I'd like to be able to delete the duplicates at the very least but it would be nice to be able to make it so what is in that list is all formatted the way I want.
I would also like to be able to configure a default confidence level for each particular source. For example, I have created various source names for various census reels. I always set the confidence on these to Direct and Primary Evidence whenever I add it to a record. It would make sense to me then to be able to set it when I define the source. Right now the default is 'undefined'.
One last suggestion (for now) has to do with marking people as deceased even though there is no death date. I have found when I add people to my tree through Smart Matches that very often they are not marked as deceased. I have found I need to manually check whenever I add people this way and manually mark them as deceased when they would be over 100 years old. Perhaps it would be possible for the alert to come up as it does when I manually add a new person, and they would be older than my set alert value?
Thank you for your post and the kind words you have written to our development team.
I have passed on your good wishes and they are very thankful and proud to be of service to you and all our users.
With regards to your suggestions, these are very good and I will be sure to forward thenm to our development team for consideration and would like to thank you for these and any more that you may think of as this does help us to provide a better service and product for our users and we value all input that we receive.
I have been reading some other posts about a new Family Tree Builder (well Family Social Network really) called Famberry that lets you build bloodline family trees. I have tried it out and it works great, even on my phone. I had problems with Apple devices with the other online family tree builders, so I was pleased that Famberry works on all of them.
