Sharing FTB database

Hi,

I would like to install FTB on two computers and share the FTB data files with Windows 7 and Homegroup (wanting to have the files open at the same time is not necessary for me, by the way). What files or folders should I move to the Homegroup location? Thanks.

Hi AJV,

Thank you for writing to us.

There is a way for you to transfer all your information from your one computer to another computer.

What you have to do is first save your family tree from the first computer onto removable media. The best way to back up your family tree is to use Family Tree Builder’s backup facility on File>Back up Project. It will save a single file, perfect for backup, that contains your family tree and all its photos and documents. You can save it to a usb flash key, or to a cd/dvd.

Such a backup can later be restored on family Tree Builder on a different computer, by going into Family Tree Builder on that computer and using File>Restore Project.

Please note that if you update your tree on one of the computers, you should update your tree on the other computer as well.

Please let us know if you have any further questions.

Best Regards,

Esther / MyHeritage team

I followed these directions but I have a problem.  On my My Heritage web site each person is listed twice on the "people" list. How can I delete the duplicates.  On family tree builder each person is still only listed once, so I can't see how I could do it there.

I looked at your account details and I see you have two family trees on your family site. They appear to be exactly the same.

This is what is causing duplicate names on the Family Tree > People page of your site.

In order to fix the problem, simply delete the older of the two trees. You can do this on the Family Tree > Manage Trees page. Make sure to note which tree is the older of the two on this page before deleting.

To delete a tree, click on MORE and then select delete.
