Hi Johnny, Thanks for writing.

I am sorry you are having trouble.

The reason the grey "unknown" shows up when you try to

delete someone has to do with the way family trees are built and how the

family tree program at MyHeritage works. In standard family tree logic

there must always be a man-woman pair whenever a child exists in the tree.

In order to comply with those standards, the family tree program at

MyHeritage also requires a man-woman pair in order for a

child to exist in the tree. This means that anytime there is a child

attached to two persons in the tree, and you try to delete one of those parents,

the program is forced to keep a "person" in that place.

Thus, our lovely unknown.

We are currently working on a better solution to this problem.

In the meantime, your best workaround is to make sure that there

are no children attached to a person that you would like to delete.

I understand if this is frustrating for you because, for example,

there may be persons "high up" in the tree that you need to delete and it

would mean deleting a lot of children in order to get to him/her.

The best thing to do is EDIT the information on that person if you can

rather than trying to delete him/her altogether.

If you have further questions, please let me know.

Best Regards,

Arbel / MyHeritage Team

Thanks for the posting regarding "Unknown" blocks.  I've removed all the children associated with an Unknow yet, the delete functions still does not work.

 Any ideas or suggestions?

Hi Jim,

I see that you have some "Unknowns" in your tree.

Can you please tell me which one do you want to delete?

Hi Arbel. Thanks for the quick reply. I've attached a screen dump that shows the two Unknown objects (and their Unknown children) that I am trying to remove. jim brown Himmm.....Not sure what the problem is but for some reason, I can’t attach the screen dump. It’s in an MS Word *.doc format? I’ll try to describe: If you select my wife, Theresa Browne and then scan to the most right part of the screen, you should see the two Unknowns we are trying to remove. To the best of my knowledge, they are the only two Unknown object in this database instance. I hope this description is adequate for you to find it. jim

Hi jim,

I found this Unknown and deleted them.

You can delete  a person in the tree only if he is not connected to ancestors or descendants.

Let me know if you need anything else.

 P.S.

Next time try to attach JPG files:-)

Many thanks for doing this for me Arbel.

Just a note for you:  I was pretty sure that I deleted all the child objects associated with that particular branch of the tree.  However, since the delete function did not work, I guess I missed some (??).

Hi Jim,

I think you missed some because one of the "unknowens" had a branch going out from him. Next time, check all the branches.
