Hi I dont know if anyone can help with this.

I live in france, but I am English

I Bookmarked  "myheratage site" in my toolbar as myheritage.com/ but whenever I click on it, it always changes to myheritage.fr/ and is in French.

which means I always have to change the language to english which is another 2 clicks before I can log in, its frustrating more than a problem.

Does anyone know the solution?

Thanks in anticipation.

Hi,

Thank you for writing to us.

Unfortunately, at this point in time there is no way to change your site from switching to myheritage.fr. It changes the site language according to your IP address.

I will pass on your comments to the appropriate department for future site improvements.

We are always happy to hear from our users!

Best Regards,

Esther / MyHeritage Team

That's interesting Esther because I'm in Ireland, the main language of my site is English and yet I still default to myheritage.es. I don't mind this but I tried to send the link to my brother in Cornwall and he gets it in Spanish too! So there does appear to be a way of disabling the IP following.

Hi Sabestian,

Thank you for writing to us.

Are you sure that all the links that you sent your brother were to www.myheritage.com and not www.myheritage.es?

Can you please ask your brother to go into his internet browser settings and to clear all of his MyHeritage cookies, it is possible that they would automatically redirect him to the site in Spanish.

Please let me know.

Best Regards,

Esther / MyHeritage Team

Actually, there is a solution for you.

What you can do is bookmark your site with ?lang=EN   in its address.

For example, bookmark this:

http://rout.myheritage.com?lang=EN

What this will do, when visited, is always go to your site and FORCE the language as English. It will not switch to French, which it might otherwise try to do because of your location. Another solution is avoid logging off every time. When you stay logged on, the risks are very minor, and cookies remain and remember your language preferences. This way visiting myheritage.com will keep you in English. But you have to log off if someone else is using MyHeritage.com on a different account on the same computer. Take care,

 Gilad
