In Germany a person can have lots of names but go by any one of them.

The usually denote that with an underline:

John James Jason Smith

I have been going with

(John) James (Jason) Smith

 a little clumsy.

I think you are referring to FTB?  please confirm.

I bit the bullet and transferred everything to webtree with photos to myheritage.com.  (lots of work). I am now able to get others to contribute.  Unfortunately the web version is not as feature rich.
